This paper presents a fully validated method for the qualitative identification of bromadiolone, brodifacoum, coumachlor, coumatetralyl, difenacoum and warfarin in whole blood specimens. Samples are protein precipitated with acetonitrile, processed via solid-phase extraction and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography with high resolution tandem mass spectrometric detection. Limits of detection were 10 ng/mL or better for all analytes.

Sensitive and specific displacement analysis methods for the assay of steroid hormones in small volumes of plasma are described. Plasma sex steroid and gonadotrophin hormone patterns were determined throughout a number of normal menstrual cycles. The mean cycles showed patterns which were similar to those described by other workers. However, examination of individual cycles provided information which may contribute to our understanding of menstrual cycle regulation with particular reference to the pattern of 17alpha-hydroxyprogesterone and steroid-gonadotrophin interactions.

Thymineless death was examined in Escherichia coli 15T(-) and recombinants of 15T(-) and E. coli K-12. Those strains that were very sensitive to thymine deprivation were also very sensitive to a variety of inducing agents (mitomycin C, ultraviolet light, hydroxyurea, and nalidixic acid). 5 children with chronic granulomatous disease had a disorder of tryptophan metabolism, resulting in excretion of gross excess of hydroxykynurenine, kynurenine, and xanthurenic acid, with or without tryptophan loading. Hydroxykynurenine predominated, and in this and other ways the findings were different from those present in most defects of tryptophan metabolism, but were similar to those in pyridoxine deficiency. Oral pyridoxine 30 mg./day corrected this defect, but had no effect on the nitroblue tetrazolium reaction, or bacterial killing by polymorphonuclear leucocytes.

A method of rapid and selective detection and purification of contracture-inducing insect toxins from Buthinae scorpion venoms is described in this paper.
