Computed tomography (CT) is an important tool for the evaluation of subarachnoid hemorrhages caused by ruptured aneurysms. However, an unusual radiologic presentation of blood can result in the misdiagnosis of the rupture site. We report a case of ruptured right internal carotid-posterior communicating (IC-PC) artery aneurysm with an unusual radiologic presentation of hemorrhage. Intracisternal glycine, but not GABA, activates a series of neurogenic rhythmic contractions of the urinary bladder in urethane-anaesthetized rats. This effect of glycine was prevented by strychnine but not by bicuculline, indicating the involvement of specific glycinergic receptors. The effects of glycine were also prevented by either atropine or haloperidol suggesting an involvement of cholinergic and monoaminergic excitatory neurotransmission to the bladder.

Radionuclide lumbar cisternography using indium 111-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (111In-DTPA) and a mobile gamma-camera with a converging collimator was utilized as a bedside procedure to evaluate CSF dynamics and the patency of the cerebral ventricular system in 30 preterm infants with hydrocephalus. Substance P (SP) and the C-terminal sequences octa- and penta-SP produced dose-dependent vasopressor responses, and the action was associated with mild tachycardia. The vasopressor effect of SP was counteracted by the SP antagonist [D-Pro2,D-Phe7,D-Trp9]SP given intracisternally, suggesting that central SP receptors were involved. Experiments with different sodium contents in the vehicle and with naloxone pretreatment indicate that central naloxone-sensitive opiate receptors may exist, capable of modulating the effects of SP receptor activation.

The in vivo spasmogenic capacity of a lipid hydroperoxide (15-hydroperoxy arachidonic acid: 15-HPAA) was studied in a chronic experiment using the dog. The 15-HPAA was injected into the cisterna magna (0.2 or 2 mg emulsified in bovine serum albumin solution). The changes in diameter of the basilar artery were followed by angiography, and the morphological changes were studied by electron microscopy.
