[A Case of Unresectable Ascending Colon Cancer Treated with a Newly Devised Bypass Method].

A 74-year-old man underwent a medical examination for anemia and had a positive fecal occult blood test. Ascending colon cancer was detected by colonoscopy. Since it was unresectable, a bypass operation was performed to prevent digestive symptoms prior to chemotherapy. The bypass was performed by cutting the ileum and attaching the oral side to the transverse colon with side to side anastomosis. The other end of the terminal ileum was anastomosed to the transverse colon on the oral side of the prior anastomosis, making a pretzel shaped bypass. There were no postoperative complications and the

[A Case of Recurrent Ascending Colon Cancer with Concomitant Dementia Successfully Treated with Chemotherapy].

A 72-year-old man with advanced dementia presented with a right lower abdominal painful mass, and on detailed examination and investigation, was diagnosed to have moderately differentiated circumferential tubular adenocarcinoma infiltrating the abdominal wall in the middle of the ascendingcolon. It was extremely painful, and there was also a risk of ileus if left untreated. Therefore, laparoscopic right hemicolectomy was performed. One year after surgery, examination revealed local recurrence. After consultation with family members, we started with chemotherapy, usingcapecitabine and bevacizum

Ascending colon cancer associated with deposited ova of Schistosoma japonicum in non-endemic area.

Some reports suggest the positive correlation between Schistosoma japonicum infection and colorectal cancer, however the sufficient evidence that supports a causal relationship between them has not been established. Japan used be an endemic area of S. japonicum infection for 40 years ago. But now all of Japan is a non-endemic area of S. japonicum infection. We report a case of ascending colon cancer associated with deposited ova of S. japonicum in non-endemic area.

[A case of ascending colon cancer with unresectable distant metastases treated by systemic chemotherapy].

The patient, a male in his 70s, was referred to this hospital by his neighborhood doctor with what was said to be impaired hepatic function. Detailed examinations revealed a circumferential ascending colon cancer, diffuse hepatic metastases scattered over both liver lobes, and lymph node metastases in the left axilla. With the primary lesion-induced symptoms of stenosis controllable, the patient began systemic chemotherapy by mFOLFOX6 without a resection of the primary lesion. After completing a 10-course treatment, the patient underwent surgery to resect the primary lesion in preparation for

Transplantation of segmental rat intestinal grafts including the ileocecal value and the ascending colon.

Extrinsic denervation and lymphatic disruption impair nutrient absorption after small bowel transplantation. The present study was undertaken to determine whether adding the ileocecal valve with or without the ascending colon would improve the function of a segmental intestinal graft. Five groups of Lewis rats (n = 10/group) were studied. Group I had a sham laparotomy. Groups II, III, IV, and V had the native jejunum, ileum, and cecum replaced with a graft. Inbred Lewis rats were used as isogeneic donors for the transplants to avoid the confounding effect of graft rejection. Group II had the e

[A Case of Ascending Colon Cancer with Duodenal Fistula Treated by Gastrojejunostomy Combined with"Separation Surgery of the Right-Sided Colon"].

An 80-year-old man presented with fever and vomiting. Abdominal CT and upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed ascending colon cancer with duodenal invasion, resulting in the formation of a duodenocolic fistula. The patient's general condition was poor, with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group-performance status(ECOG-PS)of 3, rendering the patient unsuitable for radical resection and chemotherapy. However, the patient strongly desired to resume oral intake and was discharged from the hospital. As a palliative measure, gastrojejunostomy and"separation surgery of the right-sided co

A Case of Granulocyte Colony-stimulating Factor-producing Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Ascending Colon.

We herein report a rare case of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-producing adenosquamous carcinoma of the ascending colon. An 80-year-old man was admitted to our hospital complaining of constipation and hypophagia. His medical history over the past nine years included chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, arteriosclerosis obliterans, and acute limb ischemia. He had no history of inflammatory bowel disease or other gastrointestinal conditions. Colonoscopy and contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a tumor in the ascending colon. Biopsies were obtained from five different a

[A Case of Local Recurrence of Ascending Colon Cancer Successfully Resected by Laparoscopic Surgery].

A 93-year-old woman was emergently admitted to our hospital diagnosed with femoral neck fracture. She had a previous history of undergoing laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer 2 years and 4 months ago, and blood examination showed severe anemia. Detailed inspection was then performed, and she was diagnosed as having local recurrence of previous ascending colon cancer. To prevent further bleeding, she underwent laparoscopic surgery. The tumor was located nearby hepatic flexure, and direct invasion to the duodenum and the Gerota's fascia was suspected. The region including

Robotic hemi-colectomy for ascending colon cancer in a patient with situs inversus totalis.

BACKGROUND: Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital anomaly in which the thoracic and abdominal cavity structures are completely opposite to normal. Performing robot-assisted surgery in these patients is difficult because of these anomalies. A few reports have described robot-assisted surgery for rectal cancer in patients with SIT, but no reports to date have described robot-assisted surgery for colon cancer. CASE PRESENTATION: A 74-year-old female presented with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with ascending colon cancer and SIT. We carefully planned the surgical procedure and per

Extramedullary Involvement of the Ascending Colon in Relapsing Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia: A Case Report.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) accounts for <1% of adult cancers. Extramedullary relapse of ALL has been primarily reported in pediatric patients or hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients, and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a less frequently reported site of extramedullary relapse. Here, we report a case of a 30-year-old male who was a known case of ALL with multiple relapses and allogenic stem cell transplantations. The patient presented with acute lower GI bleeding and was confirmed to have an extramedullary relapse of ALL in the ascending colon. As the patient already had ear

Surgery of intraabdominal giant dedifferentiated liposarcoma of ascending colon mesentery: A rare case report.

INTRODUCTION: Liposarcoma, a lipogenic tumor of large deep-seated connective tissue space, presents the most common type of soft tissue sarcoma arising in the retroperitoneum. Liposarcoma that arises from colonic mesentery is especially a very rare disease. The present case describes a surgery of giant dedifferentiated liposarcoma at ascending colon mesentery. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 47-year-old South Korean man was admitted and presented with palpable abdominal mass. Abdominal pelvic computed tomography scan revealed a huge mass at his right sided abdomen (about 25 × 19 cm sized mass at righ

[A Case of Ascending Colon Cancer with Lynch Syndrome Who Underwent XELOX Adjuvant Chemotherapy].

Lynch syndrome is an inherited syndrome with the development of the colorectal and various other cancers. Lynch syndrome is caused by mutations in the mismatch repair genes. A 33 year-old male underwent XELOX adjuvant chemotherapy for ascending colon cancer with Lynch syndrome. Although efficacy of 5-FU is not demonstrated in Lynch syndrome, MOSAIC trial had suggested a benefit from FOLFOX compared with 5-FU in patients who have colorectal cancer with Lynch syndrome. Oxaliplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy can be a therapeutic option for colorectal cancer in lynch syndrome patients.

[A Rare Case of Retroperitoneal Metastasis from Ascending Colon Cancer That Required Multimodal Treatment].

A patient in his 70's underwent a right hemi-colectomy due to an ascending colon cancer in a previous hospital. The tumor had widely infiltrated the retroperitoneal space(pT3, pN0[0/12], pPM0, pDM0, pRM1, Stage II ). He was referred to our institute 1 month after primary surgery to receive chemotherapy for his residual tumor. Abdominal computed tomography (CT)showed a 24mm tumor in his retroperitoneal space before chemotherapy. After 4 cycles of mFOLFOX6 and panitumumab, the tumor partially responded, and after 7 cycles, he achieved a complete response(CR). After an additional 10 cycles, he ha
