CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 73-year-old male with benign prostatic hyperplasia who developed SVF expansion and postoperative sepsis following TURP. Emergency transverse colostomy achieved infection control, followed by successful laparoscopic sigmoidectomy during secondary surgery.

We report a case of urachal glandular neoplasia in a male aged 72 years. The lesion had a papillary and villiform structure, and exhibited serrated features as seen in some colorectal neoplasms. The tumour cells expressed carcinoembryonic antigen, whereas the normal urachal epithelium did not. Adenosquamous carcinoma of the colon consisting of both glandular and squamous histopathologic features is a rare colorectal neoplasm. Metastasis commonly occurs in right and transverse colon. A 71-year-old Caucasian man presented with a four-month history of intermittent rectal bleeding. Pathologic analysis of biopsy specimen revealed an adenosquamous carcinoma of sigmoid colon. Sigmoid resection with a proximal and distal resection was performed. Early detection and radical operation with other available therapeutic modalities may improve clinical outcome.

As a subtype of histiocytic neoplasm, ALK-positive histiocytosis is rare, especially with colorectal involvement. We herein describe 18 F-FDG PET/CT findings of ALK-positive histiocytosis with colon involvement in a 33-year-old man. The PET/CT scan demonstrated intense FDG uptake in the colonic lesion, along with multiple hypermetabolic lymph nodes. The colon cancer with lymph node metastases was initially suspected; however, the final pathological findings confirmed the diagnosis of ALK-positive histiocytosis.

The development of a foreign body granuloma from non-absorbable suture is a relatively uncommon condition, exceptional in the retroperitoneum of patients operated on for colorectal surgery. We report the case of a patient with a history of sigmoid neoplasm showing a retroperitoneal nodule on CT and high activity on PET, mimicking a tumor implant. Pathology found a foreign body granuloma. Foreign body granuloma from suture is a condition that may look identical to tumor relapse or metastatic disease on CT and PET scans, thus requiring pathology confirmation.

Bowel obstruction resulting from colorectal and ovarian cancer is a serious and distressing complication of these malignancies. This may be caused by diffuse peritoneal carcinomatosis, bulky masses filling the pelvis and abdomen or postoperative adhesions, and should be carefully worked out by pre-operative imaging. We report the case of a small bowel obstruction and intestinal ischemia caused by a bulky (20x40 cm in diameter) cystic ovarian neoplasm that was found to be a stage IA G2 cystadenocarcinoma, successfully managed by uterus-sparing surgery.
