BACKGROUND: Antisocial behaviour is common among patients with severe mental illness (SMI) requiring hospitalisation.
AIM: To determine whether differential treatments and services are provided to patients with SMI who engage in antisocial behaviour.
METHOD: A random sample of 161 inpatients with SMI were recruited from general adult wards and assessed at baseline and two years later. Information on symptoms, aggressive behaviour, substance misuse, and service use was obtained from patients and clinical files.

OBJECTIVE: The types and amounts of crime experienced by persons with severe mental illness were examined to better understand criminal victimization in this population.
METHODS: Subjects were 331 involuntarily admitted psychiatric inpatients who were ordered by the court to outpatient commitment after discharge. Extensive interviews provided information on subjects' experience with crime in the previous four months and their perceived vulnerability to victimization, as well as on their living conditions and substance use. BACKGROUND: Therapy resistant, severe residual schizophrenia poses major challenges for the psychiatric pharmacological treatment.
METHOD: We report about a 44-year old schizophrenic male who has been detained in a closed forensic ward for 10 years, following a conviction in one manslaughter case. Despite various pharmacological treatment efforts severe residual schizophrenia remained.
RESULT: Adding Amisulpride to the ongoing treatment with Olanzapine achieved a noticeable improvement of symptoms, resulting in the possibility of relaxing imprisonment conditions.

PURPOSE: Insurers often commission psychiatric experts to evaluate the eligibility of workers with mental disorders for disability benefits, by estimating their residual work capacity (RWC). We investigated the validity of a standardized, computer-based battery of established diagnostic instruments, for evaluating the personality, cognition, performance, symptom burden, and symptom validity of claimants.
METHODS: One hundred and fifty-three claimants for benefits were assessed by the assembled test battery, which was applied in addition to a conventional clinical work disability evaluation.
