[New neuroimaging methods in assessing the activity of neuroinflammation in multiple sclerosis].

The review presents current data on the use of positron emission tomography and single-photon emission computed tomography in multiple sclerosis (MS) to assess the activity of the pathological process, including neuroinflammation, demyelination, activation of microglia, neurodegeneration and local blood flow disorders. These methodologies are a new approach for studying the mechanisms of action and evaluating the clinical effect of disease modifying therapy of MS, especially those capable of penetrating into brain tissue. Among them, the most attention is attracted by cladribine tablets acting

Model-based evaluation of connexin hemichannel permeability.

Connexin (Cx) hemichannels form intercellular gap junction channels but can also function independently. These large-pore channels are permeable not only to ions but also to small signalling molecules and metabolites. This functional property is relevant to many physiological processes and can be altered by various biochemical factors or disease-causing mutations. In this study, we present a methodology for quantifying and comparing the permeabilities of hemichannels formed by different Cx isoforms using a combination of fluorescence imaging, electrophysiological recordings and mathematical mo

Advances in Addressing Patient Heterogeneity in Economic Evaluation: A Review of the Methods Literature.

Cost-effectiveness analyses commonly use population or sample averages, which can mask key differences across subgroups and may lead to suboptimal resource allocation. Despite there being several new methods developed over the last decade, there is no recent summary of what methods are available to researchers. This review sought to identify advances in methods for addressing patient heterogeneity in economic evaluations and to provide an overview of these methods. A literature search was conducted using the Econlit, Embase and MEDLINE databases to identify studies published after 2011 (date o

Interpretation of molecular electron transport in ab initio many-electron framework incorporating zero-point nuclear motion effects.

A computational methodology, founded on chemical concepts, is presented for interpreting the role of nuclear motion in the electron transport through single-molecule junctions (SMJ) using many-electron ab initio quantum chemical calculations. Within this approach the many-electron states of the system, computed at the SOS-ADC(2) level, are followed along the individual normal modes of the encapsulated molecules. The inspection of the changes in the partial charge distribution of the many-electron states allows the quantification of the electron transport and the estimation of transmission prob

Mineralization of Sialoliths Investigated by Ex Vivo and In Vivo X-ray Computed Tomography.

The fraction of organic matter present affects the fragmentation behavior of sialoliths; thus, pretherapeutic information on the degree of mineralization is relevant for a correct selection of lithotripsy procedures. This work proposes a methodology for in vivo characterization of salivary calculi in the pretherapeutic context. Sialoliths were characterized in detail by X-ray computed microtomography (μCT) in combination with atomic emission spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. A meta-analysis of the effects of internet- and computer-based cognitive-behavioral treatments for anxiety.

Internet-and computer-based cognitive-behavioral treatments have been introduced as novel approaches to deliver standard, quality treatment that may reduce barriers to care. The purpose of this review is to quantitatively summarize the literature examining the treatment effects of Internet- or computer-based treatment (ICT) on anxiety. Nineteen randomized controlled ICT trials were identified and subjected to fixed and random effects meta-analytic techniques. Weighted mean effect sizes (Cohen's d) showed that ICT was superior to waitlist and placebo assignment across outcome measures (ds=.49-1

Methodological limitations of NOM in the WSES acute appendicitis guidelines.

The 2025 WSES Guidelines endorse nonoperative management (NOM) for uncomplicated acute appendicitis. However, the oncologic risks and methodological limitations of this approach require strict scrutiny. Applying the GRADE framework, admission computed tomography presents severe clinical indirectness, underestimating microperforations and failing to exclude occult appendiceal neoplasms in up to 3.2% of cases. Furthermore, contemporary data demonstrate that NOM recurrence rates reach 42.6% at three years. The perceived safety profile of initial antibiotic therapy is skewed. Definitive anatomical
