[Changes in vital functions in endoscopic interventions by various anesthesia and ventilation conditions].

Three different mixed anaesthesias were compared and monitored as for the behaviour of vital functions (heart frequency, RR, ECG, respiration, pO2tc, blood gases) during endoscopy of the air passages in 3 patient groups (n = 36), using one complex measuring set-up. Hypertonic blood pressure rises and increase in the heart frequency were regularly demonstrated in all methods of anaesthesia. Initial cardiac depression with a drop of frequency and blood pressure was observed for the first time within the first minute after the injection of Hexobarbital or Radenarcon in 70 per cent of the cases. Alterations in Cortical Oscillatory Dynamics Following SARS-CoV-2 Infection: QEEG Biomarkers of Vulnerability to Attention and Seizure-Related Symptoms.

SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with not only acute respiratory symptoms but is also characterized by strong neurotropism which may contribute to the development of the multisystem post-COVID syndrome (PASC). Patients frequently report chronic neurocognitive disorders such as brain fog, significant attention deficits and increased susceptibility to epileptiform discharges. The aim of this review is to systematize the knowledge regarding deviations in quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) recordings in convalescents and to evaluate the utility of this method as an objective biomarker. Sleep Physiology Alterations Precede Plethoric Phenotypic Changes in R6/1 Huntington's Disease Mice.

In hereditary neurodegenerative Huntington's disease (HD), there exists a growing consideration that sleep and circadian dysregulations may be important symptoms. It is not known, however, whether sleep abnormalities contribute to other behavioral deficits in HD patients and mouse models. To determine the precise chronology for sleep physiology alterations and other sensory, motor, psychiatric and cognitive symptoms of HD, the same R6/1 HD transgenics and their wild-type littermates were recorded monthly for sleep electroencephalogram (EEG) together with a wide range of behavioral tests accord

[Effect of swinging on EEG of rats of juvenile age in the wakefulness state].

Simultaneous recording of the EEG activity of superficial cortical and deep (caudate nucleus, dorsal hippocampus, anterior hypothalamus) brain parts has been performed for the first time after a 2-h swinging of frequency of 0.2 Hz in Wistar rats of juvenile age. Swinging was produced on a 4-bar parallel swing. Using a Neuron-Spectr electroencephalograph and a Diana program, normalized power spectra of wave EEG components, synchronization coefficients, and coefficients of cross-correlation between bioelectrical potentials of various brain structures were determined. After a 2-h swinging, the me

[Regulation of sleep].

Sleep regulation calls for 3 processes: the first one is the homeostatic process increasing during wakefulness and decreasing during sleep, the second one is the circadian process depending on the circadian oscillator which controls temperature and alertness rhythms, and the third one is the ultradian process: it determines the NREM/REM periodicity. In the 2 process model of sleep regulation, the power density of the delta band (0.75-4.5 Hz) called slow wave activity (SWA) and obtained by spectral analysis, is supposed to reflect the variations of a homeostatic recovery process (process S) tha

[Hypnosis: An ancient therapeutic practice revived in modern science].

Hypnosis is an externally induced alteration in consciousness as a result of suggestion. Hypnotherapy, also called clinical hypnosis, is the … lness. During hypnotic catalepsy, the EEG is characterized (compared to baseline) by an increase in delta rhythm power and an increase in the amplitude and index of theta rhythm, mainly in the temporal leads of both hemispheres. Additionally, there is significant asymmetry between the right and left hemispheres. It must be noted that hypnosis is just the tool …

Classification of Patients with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies using Resting EEG Selected Features at Sensor and Source Levels: A Proof-of-Concept Study.

BACKGROUND: Early differentiation between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) is important for accurate prognosis, as DLB patients typically show faster disease progression. Cortical neural networks, necessary for human cognitive function, may be disrupted differently in DLB and AD patients, allowing diagnostic differentiation between AD and DLB. OBJECTIVE: This proof-of-concept study assessed whether the application of machine learning techniques to data derived from resting-state electroencephalographic (rsEEG) rhythms (discriminant sensor power, 19 electrodes) and

[Methods of localization of equivalent EEG sources in the diagnostics of protracted loss of consciousness].

Results of EEG study of patients in a protracted unconscious state due to severe cranial trauma using different methods of source localization (independent component analysis, the LORETA method) are presented in order to compare their diagnostic value. Also the results of the study of somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) to median nerve stimulation of and EEG are compared. The independent higher frequency components of the EEG power spectrum had the higher activity in the delta-band, were localized predominantly in the frontal brain hemispheres (frontal, temporal regions), positively correla

Chaotic and phase-locked responses of the somatosensory cortex to a periodic medial lemniscus stimulation in the anesthetized rat.

Field potential responses of the somatosensory cortex to a periodic medial lemniscus (ML) fiber stimulation were investigated in anesthetized rats. Since the field potential responses of the cortex depend on the depth of anesthesia, two criteria were introduced to control the depth of anesthesia. One criterion is that spindle oscillations are caused by a single shock to ML fibers, and the other is that the dominant frequency of spontaneous field potential rhythm is in the frequency range of the delta wave. Phase-lockings and chaotic responses occurred depending on stimulus parameters under the

Serial waking-sleep EEGs and evolution of somatosensory potentials in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

We have analysed the serial sleep and waking EEGs of 3 patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), demonstrated by pathology studies. The presence of periodic complexes (PCs) was a constant finding in all the records, including those made on admission (1-3 months after the onset of symptoms) although at this stage the PCs were not as persistent of generalized as in the more advanced stages. The physiological states of sleep were replaced by cyclic changes which initially consisted of phases with PCs alternating with theta-delta activity. As the disease progressed, brief periods of suppressi

EEG in presenile dementia related to cerebral blood flow and autopsy findings.

EEG, regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and neuropathological autopsy data were studied in 17 patients with presenile dementia. RCBF was measured in 14 cases using the intra-arterial-133-Xenon clearance technique. The neuropathological study included semi-serial whole brain microscopical sections in which the severity and regional distribution of the neuronal degeneration was studied, particularly in the cortex and the brain stem. There were two main diagnostic groups, seven cases of Alzheimer's disease and five cases with a cortical atrophy of the Pick (DFT) type. Both groups showed fronto-t

Long-term correlation of the electrocorticogram as a bioindicator of brain exposure to ionizing radiation.

Understanding the effects of radiation and its possible influence on the nervous system are of great clinical interest. However, there have been few electrophysiological studies on brain activity after exposure to ionizing radiation (IR). A new methodological approach regarding the assessment of the possible effects of IR on brain activity is the use of linear and nonlinear mathematical methods in the analysis of complex time series, such as brain oscillations measured using the electrocorticogram (ECoG). The objective of this study was to use linear and nonlinear mathematical methods as bioma

Agrypnia excitata.

Agrypnia (from the Greek: to chase sleep) excitata (AE) is a syndrome characterized by loss of sleep and permanent motor and autonomic hyperactivation (excitata). Disruption of the sleep-wake rhythm consists in the disappearance of spindle-delta activities, and the persistence of stage 1 non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep persists but fails to stabilize, appearing in short recurrent episodes, isolated, or mixed with stage 1 NREM sleep. Diurnal and nocturnal motor, autonomic and hormonal overactivity is the second hallmark of AE. Of particular interest is the fi

[Echocardiographic evaluation of mitral stenosis: significance of Pc-To/Ac-Mo ratio (author's transl)].

The echocardiographic tracings of 40 subjects with pure or prevalent mitral stenosis are obtained. The modification of the isovolumetric relaxation time of the right (Pc-To) and the left (Ac-Mo) ventricle, measured from echocardiographic tracings, versus the values of systolic (PSP cat.) and wedge (PVCP cat.) pulmonary pressure are studied in 15 sinusal rhythm patients who underwent cardiac catheterization. The variations of Pc-To versus Ac-Mo and of Pc-To/Ac-Mo ratio versus the most important indices of mitral stenosis and right ventricular performance evaluation are studied in all the patien

Ultra-high-frequency electrocardiography identifies preserved ventricular synchrony during left bundle branch area pacing compared with right ventricular pacing.

BACKGROUND: Right ventricular pacing (RVP) may induce nonphysiological ventricular activation and electrical dyssynchrony, whereas left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) is intended to recruit the His-Purkinje system and preserve a more physiological activation pattern. OBJECTIVE: To compare paced-state ventricular activation profiles during LBBAP and RVP using ultra-high-frequency electrocardiography (UHF-ECG). METHODS: In this single-center pilot comparative study, 33 patients undergoing permanent pacing were analyzed (16 LBBAP, 17 RVP). The UHF-ECG comparison was performed exclusively dur

From numbers to trajectories: a pragmatic hs-cTnT/NT-proBNP delta-check for 12-month risk stratification in chronic heart failure.

BACKGROUND: High-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) are widely used in heart failure (HF), but outpatient interpretation often depends on isolated values rather than within-person change. We evaluated a pragmatic dual-biomarker delta-check framework for 12-month risk stratification in chronic HF. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of adults with chronic HF who had paired hs-cTnT and NT-proBNP measurements obtained during a clinically stable anchor visit and repeated within 3-6 months. The second paired measurement
