We report a case of mitral valve annular dilatation caused by a large left atrial myxoma. A 69-year-old woman presented in pulmonary oedema. She was found to have a large left atrial myxoma prolapsing into the left ventricle in diastole causing severe functional mitral stenosis. Oesophagitis dissecans superficialis is an extremely rare and benign condition where the mucosal epithelium of the oesophagus sloughs off along the whole length of the oesophagus and is expelled as an oesophageal cast. This condition has been reported in association with various aetiological factors. We report a case of an oesophageal cast in a patient who underwent repeated oesophagoscopy and dilatation for a postcricoid web. We discuss the possible relationship between trauma to the upper oesophagus and the development of oesophagitis dissecans superficialis.

PURPOSE: This retrospective study evaluated the safety and efficacy of fluoroscopically guided balloon dilatation of benign pediatric esophageal strictures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2000 and 2005, 272 esophageal balloon dilatations were performed in 49 children, aged 18 days to 18 years. Chart and primary physician record reviews were used to assess complications, age-appropriate food intake, and dysphagia. Efficacy was calculated by time to recurrent symptoms requiring repeat balloon dilatation. Durability was assessed by the frequency of dilatations.

Segmentary dilatation of intrahepatic bile ducts are well depicted with ultrasound. Two groups of diseases could be differentiated by searching a liver mass: biliary diseases without any tumor or dilatation of biliary duct due to an adjacent liver mass. Inside these two groups, some diseases are frequent and other not. We will emphasize autoimmune cholangitis and (Low Phospholipid Associated Cholelithiasis) LPAC with MDR3 deficiency. Decisional trees are proposed.

Dilatation of the pulmonary autograft is a problem described following Ross procedure for aortic valve replacement. Patients at risk seem to be those with aortic insufficiency, bicuspid aortic valves, and those with aneurismal ascending aortas. We describe a technique for encasing the pulmonary autograft in a Dacron tube to prevent dilatation in these patients. Caustic strictures of the oesophagus (CSO) in children are managed in different ways. Our study looks into the results of long-term dilatation of such strictures. Of 109 children admitted to our hospital with caustic ingestion, 10 developed strictures. The dilatations were carried out for periods varying from 9 months to 4 years. Fetal ultrasound provides the capacity for early detection of a variety of congenital heart diseases. We report a case of aneurysmal dilatation of a patent ductus arteriosus detected in utero and subsequently confirmed by transthoracic echocardiography in the neonatal period. Prompt recognition of the ductus aneurysm with resultant surgical ligation may have averted potentially serious complications from this condition.
