Three patients with aneurysmal dilations of the saphenous vein at the upper part of the leg have been presented. Arterial aneurysms are relatively frequent, but venous ones are exceptionally rare, and in the world literature, up-to-now, there have been reported about 300 such aneurysms. The most frequent localization of venous aneurysms is at the neck, and then at the area of upper and lower extremities. Electron microscopic studies on sinusoidal dilatation of the liver were reported in 14 patients on oral contraceptives. The architecture of dilated sinusoids was preserved together with a striking perisinusoidal fibrosis. Proliferation and enhanced activity of sinusoidal endothelial cells and of perisinusoidal cells could be observed. The lumen of the dilated sinusoids was empty with no extravasation of the erythrocytes. The changes were different from peliosis hepatis described in association with the taking of androgenic-anabolic steroids.

It has already been demonstrated that abdominal ultrasound is an adequate method for measuring the cervix in pregnancy. The use of the vaginal route for such measurement is new. Cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita (CMTC) is characterized by a persistent vascular mottling of the skin, usually on the limbs. An experimental animal model was set up to examine the interrelationship between urine flow and progressive ureteric stenosis in producing sonographically detectable hydronephrosis. In four rabbits with mild ureteric stenosis or no stenosis the renal pelvis showed little distension even with rapid diuresis. This article deals with blood flow and tissue pressure changes in the inflamed dental pulp. While detailed patho-physiological studies of the circulation in the inflamed pulp are still partly lacking, available data from studies of the normal pulp tissue are also discussed. Knowledge of the normal physiological adjustments may indicate which circulatory changes would take place during inflammation. A patient developed abnormal liver function tests in association with hepatic sinusoidal ectasia concurrently with relapse of Hodgkin's disease. Tests returned to normal following successful chemotherapy for the Hodgkin's disease. Sinusoidal ectasia and the related condition, peliosis hepatis, should be recognized as rare non-infiltrative manifestations of Hodgkin's disease.

Colonic obstructions of uncommon cause may present challenging diagnostic problems that require prompt and correct treatment. Fifty such patients were studied and illustrate the problems that may be encountered. Clinical observations of importance include the need to distinguish a prostatic cancer obstructing the rectum, the mimicking of inoperable cancer by various benign processes, the need to decompress an enlarging cecum even in paralytic ileus, and the occasional inadequacy of sigmoidectomy as the elective treatment of sigmoid volvulus.

Two cases of Caroli's diseases (simple type) precisely diagnosed prior to the operation by the direct cholangiography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiography, and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography, were reported. They both had a long cystic duct, and association of cystic lesions of bilateral kidneys was revealed in one of them. Excessive biliary output had been observed postoperatively in both of them. A cholecystectomy and choledochodrainage successfully gave rise to favourable results in both cases reported.

Ultrasonographic examination of the upper urinary tract in 109 asymptomatic pregnant women was performed to determine the degree of dilatation, the time of onset, and the range of "physiologic" changes detectable by this method. Classification is established and prevalence and degree of dilatation are categorized by trimesters. Semiautomated computer software (ie, ROPtool) can trace and analyze optical coherence tomography (OCT)-generated retinal vessel maps for plus/pre-plus disease with high reliability and accuracy. This proof-of-concept study found that ROPtool can reliably rank OCT-generated vessel maps for tortuosity and combined tortuosity/dilation, which correlated well with human-expert rankings and clinical examination.
