BACKGROUND: Motility disorders are frequently encountered in gastroenterology (GI) practice, yet a national structured training curriculum for GI fellows in motility disorders is lacking. Since GI fellowships vary considerably in opportunities for specialized esophageal motility (EM) training, novel educational technology may be leveraged to provide standardized EM curriculum to train GI fellows in esophageal manometry.
METHODS: GI fellows participated in an online EM learning program at a single academic center from 2017 to 2022. Fellows answered case-based questions and were provided with e

PURPOSE: The value of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) for a program director is in the information it contains comparing how a student performed in medical school relative to his or her classmates. The Association of American Medical Colleges has recommended that a student's class ranking be included in the summary paragraph of the MSPE and that this information be repeated in a supplementary appendix.
METHODS: The authors reviewed the MSPEs from 1,479 applications for residency training positions. The aim was to determine to what extent and in what manner individual schools

Appropriate and adequate training is the hallmark of modern medical care. The foundation of medical education in the United States is accredited medical schools combined with formal residencies and fellowship training programs. This concept has been officially recognized by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, the Federal Licensing Examination, all state medical boards, the federal government, and all medical professions and societies. Appropriate medical education is of utmost importance for procedures and therapies that offer the greatest risk to patients. There is little

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree has become firmly established as the terminal practice degree for advanced practice registered nurses in the United States. A defining component of the DNP curriculum requires students to implement a scholarly project that addresses a clinical problem and improves patient or system outcomes. This article describes the development and implementation of a structured clinical-academic partnership between a university-based DNP nurse anesthesia program and a pediatric health care organization in the southeastern United States. Central to this collaborati

OBJECTIVE: The Swiss postgraduate education regulations stipulate that teaching be guided by cross-disciplinary "General Learning Objectives" (GLOs) based on the CanMEDS roles. Notwithstanding these regulations, teaching activities and performance criteria for GLOs are scarcely evident in postgraduate training programmes. The primary aim of this study was to determine the reasons why too little emphasis is placed on GLOs in postgraduate training programmes. A secondary aim was to define a reduced set of needs-based cross-disciplinary competencies that trainees should develop during their postg

The European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) first developed recommendations for a Neonatology specific European training curriculum in 1998, with updates in 2007 and 2021. The aim of these recommendations was to define a common, European standard of training for national educational programmes for Neonatologists. Following the Union of European Medical Specialists' (UEMS) framework of European Training Requirements (ETR), and similar to the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) recommendations, graduates of training programmes conforming to the ETR will be eligible throughout Europe for r
