Although the case presented was easily treated, it caused anguish and expense that might have been avoided had the diagnosis been entertained initially. Considering the high frequency of occurrence, radial head subluxation should be thought of in young children with upper extremity injuries, typical posturing, and no other evidence of trauma or deformity. A suggestive history should be sought, and an attempt to reduce the subluxation should be made. Contractures of the elbow after burn injury are frequent and are often connected with other contractions. Surgical correction must take into consideration the topography, the likelihood of possible heterotopic ossification and the condition of the surrounding skin. A study of 66 contractures allowed us to reach the following conclusions: Linear contractures surrounded by normal skin require IC-type local flaps. An essential pre-condition for the interpretation of computer tomographs of the elbow joint is a knowledge of the normal anatomy. The complexity of the joint requires a definite protocol for the examination, since only in this way is it possible to distinguish all anatomical structures and pathological processes. A clinical example is used to show that CT of the elbow joint is superior to all other radiographic methods for demonstrating osteochondritis dissecans. It is therefore an important additional method for demonstrating the elbow joint.

A clinical and functional study of rheumatoid elbows has been done to discover the magnitude and frequency of disabilities caused by elbow problems. Pain and weakness were found to affect all activities which were tested, with adjacent joint involvement, flexion deformity, and lack of supination causing significant disability. Instability was not a frequent problem. The frequency of functional disabilities, linked to severe pain, suggests that the development of an elbow joint replacement would be worthwhile.

The exact cause of tennis elbow, a common condition, is still obscure. While the condition may well be entirely due to a local disorder at the elbow, the results of a study of 50 patients whose condition was resistant to 4 weeks of treatment directed to the elbow suggest that the underlying condition may have been (at least in these patients) a reflex localization of pain from radiculopathy at the cervical spine.
