Pinworms and postmenopausal bleeding.

The human pinworm Enterobius vermicularis is normally found within the human gastrointestinal tract. Pregnant females migrate out of their host's anus at night to lay their eggs perianally. As a consequence of this nocturnal migration some worms find their way into adjacent orifices, most commonly the female genitourinary tract, producing irritative symptoms such as vulvovaginitis. A case of pinworm infestation of the uterus presented as postmenopausal bleeding.

A "fruitful" cause of acute appendicitis.

INTRODUCTION: Acute appendicitis is a common health problem mainly due to a lumen obstruction. The obstruction is mainly due to fecal material, lymphoid hyperplasia or parasites. Foreign bodies and especially seeds have been rarely reported as causes of acute appendicitis and account for less than 1% of the different causes. CASE REPORT: The authors described a rare case of acute appendicitis caused by seed and causing diagnostic challenge with the most frequent parasites observed in the appendix lumen. Different arguments were gathered to rule out enterobius vermicularis, taenia species, asc

A Rare Cause of Acute Appendicitis: Enterobius vermicularis.

Acute appendicitis is the most common intra-abdominal pathology that requires emergency surgery in general surgery clinics. The aetiology of acute appendicitis includes both infectious and non-infectious causes. Although parasitic diseases are rare in developed countries, they are more common in developing countries. The association between acute appendicitis and parasitic infections is unclear, and whether parasites are the cause of acute appendicitis is still under debate. In addition, many appendix parasites are encountered after appendectomy. In this study, we report a rare case of acute a

Pinworm Infection at Salmon Ruins and Aztec Ruins: Relation to Pueblo III Regional Violence.

The study of coprolites has been a theme of archaeology in the American Southwest. A feature of archaeoparasitology on the Colorado Plateau is the ubiquity of pinworm infection. As a crowd parasite, this ubiquity signals varying concentrations of populations. Our recent analysis of coprolite deposits from 2 sites revealed the highest prevalence of infection ever recorded for the region. For Salmon Ruins, the deposits date from AD 1140 to 1280. For Aztec Ruins, the samples can be dated by artifact association between AD 1182-1253. Both sites can be placed in the Ancestral Pueblo III occupation

[Perforation of the appendix and observation of Enterobius vermicularis].

A nine-year-old girl was admitted to the paediatric ward due to fever and lower abdomen pain through a day. Acute laparoscopic exploration showed a large necrotic perforation at the distal end of the appendix. During the appendectomy multiple small, live Enterobius vermicularis (pinworms) were observed. The patient was admitted for three days of observation and received relevant treatment with intravenous antibiotics and antihelminthic treatment. The histology showed numerous pinworms in the lumen of the appendix and invasion of the pinworms of the submucosal layer and the wall of the appendix
