The paper argues that conceptions of mental illness and its treatment often stem from the normative social and cultural constructions of mental illness. Psychiatrists, psychologists, and other health professionals do not work in a social vacuum; they work within the accepted traditions and values prevalent in their culture. To understand mental illness it is therefore necessary to examine the salient normative beliefs, attitudes, and values of a given culture. This paper describes an application of the time windows method to an examination of the temporal pattern of lung cancer risk among steel workers. Case-control methodology was utilized. The objective of this study was assess whether residual amniotic fluid volume (AFV) following premature rupture of the membranes (PROM) is associated with fetal presentation, or the prevalence of either clinical or histologic infection in patients delivering below 32 weeks' gestation. Neurocysticercosis is a major public health problem in the developing countries. Previous to the CT scan era its diagnosis was very restricted and conventional diagnostic methods were unreliable. It was also frequently necessary to submit patients to costly and dangerous surgical procedures to confirm the precise nature of the disease. The most striking type of neurocysticercosis diagnosed by CT is the acute or edematous type (Table 1). Patients with this type of neurocysticercosis are referred for examination with intracranial hypertension, in general with suspicion of space-occupying lesion.

There is little available literature on survival data in the form of lifetables for babies born with anencephaly. These data would be valuable in advising parents, who often request very specific information on the length of time their child might survive.
