Only recently have intraocular findings been described in oral-facial-digital syndrome (OFDS), including 5 cases of chorioretinal colobomas and 1 case of optic nerve coloboma. We report a case of a new ocular anomaly associated with this syndrome: a retinal hamartoma in a male infant with OFDS. A patient with life-threatening sepsis following extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL*) is described. The urosepsis was complicated by meningitis and diffuse metastatic endophthalmitis necessitating enucleation of the right eye. Retinal detachment occurred in the left eye following focal endophthalmitis and the operation yielded a poor functional result. The patient was discharged from the hospital 3 months after the ESWL therapy, free of urinary stones. The etiology, treatment and prophylaxis of this serious problem are discussed.

A 29 year old male, admitted with diabetic keto-acidosis, was found to have rhinocerebral phycomycosis (mucormycosis) involving the left eye and the left hard palate with perforation into the maxillary antrum. Despite late diagnosis, full recovery was obtained following intravenous Amphotericin B (total dose : 3.015 gm in 4 months) and extensive surgery (debridement and unilateral eye enucleation). The circumstances of onset of the disease and its clinical characteristics are discussed; the main features of its management are analyzed.

Although toxoplasmosis is the most common infectious cause of posterior intraocular inflammation, it is rarely described in association with scleritis.
