OBJECTIVE: To reveal the characteristic findings of primary sarcoma of the kidney.
METHODS: From December 1988 through February 1996, seven cases of renal sarcoma confirmed by histo-pathology were retrospectively reviewed, including 3 leiomyosarcoma and 1 for each of liposarcoma, fibrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma and malignant Schwannoma. Polypoid melanomas are unusual, as are amelanotic ones. Similarly, polypoid melanomas are not usually acral or amelanotic. They can be challenging to diagnose clinically, as they may resemble acral lentiginous nevus, polypoid Spitz nevus, eccrine poroma, schwannoma, pyogenic granuloma, verrucous carcinoma, fibrosarcoma, basal cell carcinoma, and pyoderma gangrenosum. We delineate a 64-year-old woman with an acral amelanotic polypoid melanoma on her sole. It was successfully removed surgically without limb amputation.

A 36-year-old man presented with painless swelling in the right side scrotum. Ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic tumor with mosaic pattern. Plain computed tomograghy (CT) revealed a 67 mm scrotal cystic lesion with low density area. We suspected an intrascrotal tumor and performed right side radical orchiectomy. Inflammatory pseudotumors present clinically as mass lesions and microscopically show a spectrum of nonspecific inflammatory and regenerative changes. When the mesentery or retroperitoneum are involved, differentiation from inflammatory fibrosarcoma poses a diagnostic problem. The authors report on a 7-year-old boy who presented with fever, anemia, weight loss, and a retroperitoneal mass. Needle biopsy results of the mass showed features consistent with inflammatory pseudotumor. Examination of the resected mass showed actinomycosis.

The authors present 5 cases of monoarthritis which revealed adjacent bone tumours: a bony metastasis, a fibrosarcoma and three bone lymphomas. In three cases, the synovial histology showed lesions of non-specific synovitis without neoplastic invasion. A review of the literature demonstrates the rarity of these mono- or oligo- arthrites adjacent to bone tumours and two types can be distinguished: neoplastic invasion of the synovium or reactive non-specific synovitis without invasion.

RATIONALE: High-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (HGMS) is a rare mesenchymal tumor with a high recurrence and metastatic rate. Few cases of high-grade myofibroblastic sarcomas have been reported. Herein, we report the first case of HGMS originating from the thyroid.
DIAGNOSIS AND PATIENT CONCERNS: Based on the findings of thyroid, pathological examination, and immunohistochemical staining, grade III myofibroblastic sarcoma (MS) was diagnosed. Meanwhile, systemic imaging revealed multiple metastases in the scalp, lung, bone, liver, spleen, pancreas.

A 43-year-old woman presented to our hospital with the chief complaints of gross hematuria and dysuria. Cystoscopy and magnetic resonance imaging showed a tumor on the dome of the bladder and large blood clots. Computed tomography demonstrated no findings of distant metastasis. The development of a soft-tissue sarcoma is an infrequent but well-known long-term complication of radiotherapy. Malignant fibrous histiocytomas, extraskeletal osteosarcomas, fibrosarcomas, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, and angiosarcomas are most frequently encountered. Radiation-associated synovial sarcomas are uncommon and exceedingly rare in pediatric patients. We report an unusual case of paraspinal synovial sarcoma presenting in an adolescent female 13 years after radiation therapy for her neuroblastoma.

Metastatic malignant melanoma of the larynx is considered to be extremely rare by most authors. This paper describes a 78-year-old patient, previously treated for cutaneous malignant melanoma and intestinal fibrosarcoma, who presented with stridor due to a metastatic melanoma in the larynx. It was a pedunculated lesion and surgical excision of the lesion was accomplished with a tonsillar snare. This paper further discusses the evolving history, diagnosis and treatment of this metastatic tumour, and reviews the literature regarding previously reported cases.

The antitumour activity of cortiphen synthesized at the All-Union Cancer Research Centre of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences was studied on human tumour strains transplanted into nude mice and rats. Cortiphen was found to possess an expressed activity to kidney cancer, cancer of corpus uteri, chorionepithelioma, fibrosarcoma. Two strains of colon adenocarcinoma out of three have displayed an expressed sensitivity to cortiphen, while melanoma and Jewing sarcoma strains proved to be weakly sensitive to the preparation.

In order to study possible connections between Dupuytren's contracture and sarcoma we analysed the records of 18 patients who developed sarcoma 5 years or more after surgery for Dupuytren's contracture. We found an increased frequency of fibrosarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma, but these patients did not differ from the other patients in the study group. Our analysis suggests that neither smoking, diabetes nor cancer syndromes can explain why patients with Dupuytren's contracture have a higher incidence of sarcoma.

Research on possible effects of ionizing radiations:study of four patients having developed malignant tumor after radiotherapy for primary cancer of female reproductive system: adenoacanthoma and adenocarcinoma of uterine corpus, squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix, right ovary adenocarcinoma. Our observations comprise three epithelial tumors (muciparus adenocarcinoma of caecum and sigmoid colon, squamous cell carcinoma of rectum and anal canal) respectively 17, 10 and 9 years after radiotherapy, and one mesenchymatous tumor (peritoneal fibrosarcoma) 4 years after radiotherapy.

Postsacrectomy hernias are uncommon and can present with different signs and symptoms, including constipation, fecal incontinence, bowel obstruction, pain, and posterior bulging. We report a 50-year-old man who underwent sacrectomy for malignant fibrosarcoma complicated with sacral hernia. He presented with obstructive symptoms resulting from a strictured segment of herniated sigmoid colon and underwent bowel resection along with repair of his hernia. We additionally present a review of the literature and treatment of this rare disease.

A spirurid nematode-induced gastric nodule was believed to be responsible for chronic gastric irritation and vomiting in a domestic short-hair cat. Clinical improvement was noticed following surgical removal of the parasitic nodule in the wall of the pylorus. Morphologic characteristics of the parasite were most consistent with Spirocerca lupi. Infection with Spirocerca lupi is most commonly reported in Canids, often resulting in chronic granulomatous disease of the distal portion of the esophagus. In some animals, the lesions transform into fibrosarcomas and osteogenic sarcomas.
