State-of-the-Art Theranostics of Thyroid Cancer.

Theranostics of thyroid cancer has advanced significantly in recent years and now offers a wide range of options through new radiopharmaceuticals in addition to the established ones. The sodium-iodine remains the main target for differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT is the gold standard for imaging more aggressive subtypes. Theranostics using radiopharmaceuticals with affinity to somatostatin receptors has been included in some guidelines as an option.

Effect of addiction on brain glucose metabolism assessed by PET/CT molecular imaging: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Brain glucose metabolism, as measured by 18F-FDG PET/CT, reflects regional brain function and activity. Substance addiction has been shown to disrupt this metabolic activity, even though the affected brain regions and extent of disruption vary by substance and stage of addiction. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of substance use and dependence on cerebral glucose metabolism rate (CMRglc) measured by 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging, regardless of study design or subject conditions. A systematic search was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to identify eligible hu

PET imaging of polymyalgia rheumatica: update and future trends.

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a common immune-mediated inflammatory disease affecting older adults over 50 years of age and is characterized by constitutional symptoms with disabling pain and stiffness. Diagnosis remains challenging as clinical features can overlap with other inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions. 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose ([18F]FDG-PET/CT) has emerged as a valuable imaging modality by enabling rapid assessment of the hallmarks of PMR: extracapsular and musculotendinous inflammation at characteristic sites localizing to the shoulders, hips, pelvis, spinous processes and

FDG PET/CT in a Case of Primary Bilateral Adrenal Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma.

Primary adrenal liposarcoma is very rare, accounting for only 0.2% of primary adrenal tumors. Primary bilateral adrenal liposarcoma is even rarer. We describe FDG PET/CT findings in a case of primary bilateral adrenal dedifferentiated liposarcoma. The bilateral adrenal tumors showed intense FDG uptake with SUV max of 32 and 44 for the right and left adrenal tumors, respectively. This case indicates that dedifferentiated liposarcoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of FDG-avid bilateral adrenal lesions, including adrenocortical carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, lymphoma, metastasis,

A unified approach for identifying PET-based neuronal activation and molecular connectivity with the functional PET toolbox.

Functional PET (fPET) identifies stimulation-specific changes of physiological processes, individual molecular connectivity and group-level molecular covariance. Since there is currently no consistent analysis approach available for these techniques, we present a toolbox for unified fPET assessment. The toolbox supports analysis of data obtained with a variety of radiotracers, scanners, experimental protocols, cognitive tasks and species. It includes general linear model (GLM)-based assessment of task-specific effects, percent signal change and absolute quantification, and data-driven independ

Unusual Initial Presentation of Epileptic Seizures in a Pediatric Patient With Neuroblastoma Detected by 18 F-FDG PET/CT Imaging.

A 5-year-old boy presented with epileptic seizures persisting for ~3 months. To localize the epileptogenic focus, 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging was performed. Brain PET/CT revealed increased 18 F-FDG uptake in the right frontal lobe, which was consistent with the clinical manifestations observed during the seizure phase. The torso PET/CT identified a mass in the right adrenal region exhibiting moderate 18 F-FDG uptake. Histopathologic examination of the right adrenalectomy specimen confirmed the diagnosis of neuroblastoma. The patient remained seizure-free 2 weeks after surgery. In this case, epilep

18 F-FDG PET/CT in Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Prostate in an Infant.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the prostate is a rare tumor in infants. RMS frequently arises in genitourinary tract (~20% of cases), with the embrional subtype being the most common. 1,2 The presenting symptoms are usually not specific, often leading to an extensive diagnostic work-up before identifying RMS. 3,4 Furthermore, there are no biomarkers specific to RMS. We present the case of a 4-month-old boy with postrenal acute kidney injury (AKI). Abdominal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), followed by ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy and citopathological examination,

[ 18 F]FDG-PET/CT imaging in assessing cancer-induced cachexia.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Cachexia, and cancer-induced cachexia in particular, pose a significant clinical challenge, given its complex etiology, late diagnosis and limited treatment options available today. With advances in precision oncology and systemic metabolic assessment, this review explores the potential of [ 18 F]fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography ([ 18 F]FDG-PET/CT) - already integral to cancer patient management - to assess cachexia-related metabolic alterations beyond tumor detection. RECENT FINDINGS: Growing evidence suggests that [ 18 F]FD

Whole-body glucose uptake in crayfish (Procambarus clarkii): A study of sexual dimorphism via [18F]FDG MicroPET imaging.

UNLABELLED: Crayfish has been used in biomedical research due to their adaptability and resistance. While genetics, molecular biology, behavior assessments, electrophysiology, and microscopy techniques have been employed to study these crustaceans, in vivo metabolic evaluations using imaging techniques remain scarce. From this perspective, the use of micro positron emission tomography (MicroPET) imaging in crustacean models represents a novel approach to understand metabolic processes in these organisms and evaluating potential environmental impacts on aquatic species. OBJECTIVE: To assess th

Gingival Hyperplasia Masquerading as Tumor Lesion, Possibly Linked to Amlodipine Use.

A 70-year-old woman under amlodipine treatment for hypertension presented with a hemorrhagic mass in the mandibular gingiva. Imaging studies revealed high signal intensity in T2-weighted MRI and moderate 18 F-FDG accumulation at the lesion's periphery. Although no malignancy was detected, the lesion continuously grew, prompting excision. Histopathological examination confirmed gingival hyperplasia attributed to amlodipine use. Drug-induced gingival hyperplasia typically presents as diffuse swelling; however, this lesion manifested as a polyp, posing diagnostic challenges. Reports on imaging fi

Multi-modal assessment of a cardiac stem cell therapy reveals distinct modulation of regional scar properties.

BACKGROUND: The initial idea of functional tissue replacement has shifted to the concept that injected cells positively modulate myocardial healing by a non-specific immune response of the transplanted cells within the target tissue. This alleged local modification of the scar requires assessment of regional properties of the left ventricular wall in addition to commonly applied measures of global morphological and functional parameters. Hence, we aimed at investigating the effect of cardiac cell therapy with cardiovascular progenitor cells, so-called cardiac induced cells, on both global and

Bones on fire: illuminating osteomyelitis through the radiant lens of 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory process that is caused by an infecting microorganism and leads to progressive bone destruction and loss. Osteomyelitis can occur at any age and can involve any bone. The infection can be limited to a single portion of the bone or can involve several regions, such as marrow, cortex, periosteum, and the surrounding soft tissue. Early and accurate diagnosis plays a crucial role in reducing unnecessary treatment measures, improving the patient's prognosis, and minimizing time and financial costs. In recent years, the use of functional metabolic imaging has become i
