The quest for quality blood banking program in the new millennium the American way.

For an industry to succeed and satisfy its customers, "QUALITY" must be a primary goal. Quality has been central to blood banking from its inception, with the evolution of a Quality Program since the opening of the first blood bank in U.S. at the Cook County Hospital in 1937. Over the ensuing decades, continuous scientific progress in blood preservation, filters, viral and blood group testing, crossmatching, automation, and computerization including bar coding, etc. has contributed to the quality and safety of the blood products and transfusion service. Survival for Nonshockable Cardiac Arrests Treated With Noninvasive Circulatory Adjuncts and Head/Thorax Elevation.

OBJECTIVES: Cardiac arrests remain a leading cause of death worldwide. Most patients have nonshockable electrocardiographic presentations (asystole/pulseless electrical activity). Despite well-performed basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) interventions, patients with these presentations have always faced unlikely chances of survival. The primary objective was to determine if, in addition to conventional CPR (C-CPR), expeditious application of noninvasive circulation-enhancing adjuncts, and then gradual elevation of head and thorax, would be associated with higher likelihoods

Patient knowledge, attitudes and practices on chronic wound infections in Tanga Regional Referral Hospital, Tanzania; A qualitative study.

Bacterial wound infections contribute significantly to global mortality, with nearly half of contaminated wounds progressing to chronic states, which can result in amputations. In Tanzania, the situation is worsened by the misuse of antibiotics and the rise of drug-resistant bacteria, alongside patients' varied understanding of wound care management. This qualitative study explores patient knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding chronic wound infections in Tanzania. A sample of 15 patients was selected from both genders, representing a wide range of ages and wound severities. Semi-

Understanding the experiences of South Asian adults' management of food allergy.

BACKGROUND: Population studies suggest lower food allergy (FA) prevalence in South Asia; however, migration to urbanized, Western environments is associated with higher risk of FA among South Asian (SA) individuals, highlighting the role of environmental and sociocultural factors. Data indicate disproportionate clinical burden for SA populations than for White populations, independent of age, sex, and area-level deprivation. Despite this, the day-to-day experiences of SA adults managing FA remain understudied. OBJECTIVE: This qualitative study addresses these gaps by exploring the lived exper

Efficacy, safety, and economic assessment of hominis placental pharmacopuncture for chronic temporomandibular disorder: a protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a condition encompassing clinical symptoms of the temporomandibular joint, masseter muscle, and surrounding structures. Hominis placental pharmacopuncture (HPP), consisting of human placental extract, has been reported as effective for treating chronic musculoskeletal disorders, but a lack of well-designed randomised controlled trial s (RCTs) mean there is insufficient evidence to prove the efficacy of HPP. METHODS: This study is a two-arm parallel, assessor-blinded, multi-centre, randomised controlled trial. We will enrol 82 chronic TMD patient

The surgeon advocate's role in shaping state and federal policy.

Although most surgeons dedicate their careers to clinical excellence, education, and research, many overlook a critical fourth pillar of the profession, advocacy. Surgeons already advocate daily, whether guiding patients through care plans, performing technically complex operations, or navigating insurance barriers. However, few recognize their potential to influence broader health policies that directly affect their surgical practices. This article emphasizes the urgent need for surgeons to engage in both legislative and regulatory processes. Policy decisions, ranging from scope of practice l

Threads That Hold: Building a Community Cancer Care Ecosystem in a Border Region.

Delivering effective cancer care increasingly depends on a health system's ability to anticipate and address social needs that interrupt access, adherence, and continuity. In El Paso, Texas-a U.S.-Mexico border region shaped by geographic distance, rural catchment areas, a large military-connected population, persistent poverty, and concentrated social vulnerability-those needs are routine, not exceptional (ATSDR 2024; City-Data 2023; City of El Paso 2023; Esri Federal Data 2002). Patients commonly face transportation barriers, food insecurity, housing instability, financial toxicity, language

Economic cost analysis of severe acute malnutrition treatment in two districts of Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) affects millions of children globally, and treatment coverage remains below 30% in many settings, including Ethiopia. Although the Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) program has expanded nationwide, persistent service gaps remains, partly due to insufficient evidence for accurate cost estimation and budgeting. To address this gap, this study estimated the total economic cost, including provider-side financial and caregiver costs, of treating SAM through the CMAM program in two operational areas of Action Against Hunger, Ethiopia,

Association Between Changes in CMS Reimbursement Policy and Drug Labels for Erythrocyte-Stimulating Agents With Outcomes for Older Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis Covered by Fee-for-Service Medicare.

IMPORTANCE: In 2011, the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) changed its reimbursement policy for hemodialysis to a bundled comprehensive payment system that included the cost of erythrocyte-stimulating agents (ESAs). Also in 2011, the US Food and Drug Administration revised the drug label for ESAs, recommending more conservative dosing in patients with chronic kidney disease. In response to concerns that these measures could have adverse effects on patient care and outcomes, the CMS and the FDA initiated a collaboration to assess the effect. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effects of
