OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of periorbital arteriovenous fistula (AVF) treated with a combined approach of endovascular intervention and surgical excision.

A 34-year-old man presented with recurrent bilateral periorbital swelling and pain for 16 years after receiving facial fillers of an unknown substance in a hotel room from a stranger claiming to work in a medical office. The ocular reactions to caterpillar hairs are diverse in nature and location, ranging from a toxic reaction to the external foreign bodies, keratoconjunctivitis or the formation of conjunctival nodules, to intense iritis, vitritis or papillitis. Four cases are presented in this paper to illustrate the various degrees of ocular involvement. Included are clinical photographs of intravitreal and subretinal hairs. A classification of these reactions is suggested to facilitate the choice of treatment.

Electrosurgical ablation of the endometrium is a therapeutic choice for those patients having abnormal uterine bleeding. When ablation is followed by a hysterectomy, tissue damage due to thermal effect can be seen. From a total of 350 women with endometrial ablation, 12 required subsequent hysterectomy. The histological features found in these specimens are described and related to the elapsed time between the two surgical procedures. INTRODUCTION: Chronic ankle swelling in the pediatric population presents a diagnostic challenge due to a wide range of differential diagnoses and often non-specific clinical features. Occult retained foreign bodies, particularly radiolucent organic materials, such as wood or thorns, are an under-recognized cause of persistent swelling, especially in children who walk barefoot and may not recall trivial penetrating injuries. Delayed presentation and secondary inflammatory changes frequently obscure the primary pathology, leading to prolonged diagnostic delays.
