OBJECTIVE: To evaluate surgical results of the titanium screw-plate internal fixation in treatment of the lower cervical fracture dislocation.
METHODS: From September 2001 to March 2006, 31 patients (24 males, 7 females; age range, 20-63 years) with the lower cervical fracture dislocation were treated in our department. The injuries were caused by a road accident in 25 patients, a high crash in 4, and a heavy object crash in 2. The fracture dislocation occurred in the following cervical segments: C3 (1 patient), C1 (5 patients), C5 (12 patients), C6 (10 patients), and C7 (3 patients). The dis

Burst fractures of the fifth lumbar vertebra are rare, and there are only a few reports on this subject, which is characterised by its unique anatomical and biomechanical features. This retrospective analysis reports on ten patients whose fractures of L5 were stabilised with a short internal fixator in combination with a posterior fusion as well as transpedicular bone grafting. The average follow-up period was 22 months. Radiometric data were surveyed and compared to the functional results. The height of the fractured vertebra remained nearly unchanged throughout the course. Loss of lordosis o

Hip dislocation after hip pinning has been reported in association with sepsis, but in this paper the authors describe a case of gradual, spontaneous dislocation of the hip over several weeks, without sepsis, in a 36-year-old man who had undergone screw-plate fixation of a displaced basi-cervical fracture. This is only the second reported case of spontaneous dislocation after hip pinning not associated with infection.

Anatomic reduction, typically obtained by direct visualization through an arthrotomy and internal fixation (open reduction and internal fixation), is the traditional treatment method for displaced intraarticular condylar fractures of the distal femur. We present a case report describing an alternative treatment method, namely, arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation, of a displaced, malrotated intraarticular lateral femoral condyle fracture of the knee. The potential benefits of decreased blood loss, shortened operative time, excellent intraarticular visualization, decreased soft tissue d

Intertrochanteric femoral fractures are mainly managed by internal fixation. However, failures such as over-telescoping, cut-out, nonunion, or implant failure can occur, especially in osteoporotic elderly patients. We report the case of a patient in whom we performed artificial hip replacement surgery after fixation failure following internal fixation of an intertrochanteric femoral fracture. We report the case of an 85-year-old woman who sustained a left intertrochanteric femoral fracture treated with a dynamic hip screw (DHS). One week postoperatively, radiographs revealed over-telescoping o

BACKGROUND: Femoral neck fractures are intracapsular hip fractures. There are several surgical implants that have been used to treat femoral neck fractures. Depuy Synthes Products and the lower extremity expert group have developed an innovative femoral neck system (FNS) for fixing femoral neck fractures. With minimally invasive procedures, FNS can provide angular stability.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A non-randomized single centre prospective study was conducted in 30 patients of less than 60 years of age at Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research between August 2020 t

PURPOSE: The paper holds the research purpose of confirming the long-term results of trans-scaphoid perilunate fracture dislocations (TSPFD) under the treatment of open reduction and internal fixation.
METHODS: Anteroposterial-lateral radiographs of the patient's wrist were taken before and after surgery. We use a dorsal approach for all cases. Postoperative clinical and radiographic assessments were performed routinely. The scapholunate angle (SLA), estradiol angle (RLA), as well as lunotriquetral distance (LTD) assisted in the radiographic assessment. Clinical assessment was performed using

Whether internal fixation or hip arthroplasty is the most appropriate initial treatment for patients with ipsilateral hip fracture and osteonecrosis of the femoral head remains unknown. In this study, the prognoses of patients who underwent internal fixation or hip arthroplasty were analyzed and compared to explore the role of internal fixation in treating such patients. We retrospectively reviewed 69 patients diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the femoral head and ipsilateral hip fracture from 1999 to 2018. They were divided into the hip arthroplasty or internal fixation group. The visual analog

BACKGROUND: The treatment of proximal humerus fracture dislocations can be challenging given the extensive injury to the proximal humeral anatomy and increased risk of devascularization of the humeral head often seen in these injuries. The purpose of this study is to undertake a systematic review of the literature on the functional outcomes, rate of revision, and short- and long-term complications for proximal humerus fracture dislocations treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).
METHODS: The PubMed and OVID Embase databases were queried for literature reporting on proximal h

Failed treatment of intertrochanteric (IT) femoral fractures leads to remarkable disability and pain, and revision surgery is frequently accompanied by higher complication and reoperation rates than primary internal fixation or primary hip arthroplasty. There is an urgent need to establish a profound strategy for the effective surgical management of these fragile patients. Salvage options are determined according to patient physiological age, functional level, life expectancy, nonunion anatomical site, fracture pattern, remaining bone quality, bone stock, and hip joint competency. In physiolog

INTRODUCTION: Ankle fractures frequently occur and must be treated with open reduction for long-term stability. The existing anaesthesia methods include general anaesthesia, spinal and epidural anaesthesia, peripheral nerve block and local anaesthesia with IV sedation. However, each method has its inherent risks and potential costs, and the use of a tourniquet is inevitable. Therefore, the wide-awake local anaesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT) technique provides an alternative method for equivalent haemostasis and pain control without the use of a tourniquet.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We prospective
