Ten captive neotropical Brazilian feline were submitted to gastroscopic examination and samples of gastric mucosa from fundus, corpus and pyloric antrum were evaluated for the presence of Helicobacter species. Warthin-Starry (WS) staining and PCR assay with species-specific primers and enzymatic cleavage were applied for bacterial detection and identification. Primary intestinal T-cell lymphoma is a rare disease entity, which is approximately 10% to 25% of intestinal lymphomas, and most of the lymphomas occur in the small intestine. We report here a case of a 56-year-old woman who has been suffering from chronic diarrhea and weight loss for 6 months. METHODS: An investigation was carried out in 1488 fishermen with symptoms of UDTDs (aside from liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases) during the time period between December 1991 and February 1995. Mass screening for upper G-I tract cancer was performed by Qin's occult blood bead detector from Nov. 1986 to Apr. 1987 in Yangzhong county, Jiansu province. Of the examined subjects, 2,000 were positive for occult blood. There were 887 males and 1,113 females. The ages ranged from 23 to 75 years, 58.2% were over 40 years. RATIONALE: Non-variceal gastrointestinal bleeding is a common critical disease worldwide, and according to relevant guidelines, surgery and interventional treatment are the final therapies. However, few studies have reported on therapeutic strategies to employ when the ultimate treatment fails. This report offers a reasonable option for hemostasis after surgery and interventional treatment both fail.
