Idiopathic gingival fibromatosis is a slowly progressive proliferative fibrous lesion of the gingival tissue, leading to functional, esthetic, and psychological difficulties. This entity is mainly associated with hypertrichosis and epilepsy either as an isolated disorder or as part of a syndrome. We present a case report of a female with severe generalized gingival fibromatosis and hypertrichosis which was treated by conventional gingivectomies under local anesthesia. Postoperative healing was uneventful with a marked improvement in patient's appearance and oral hygiene.

UNLABELLED: Gingival metastasis of lung cancer is uncommon. We report the case of an 82-year-old male smoker admitted to the pulmonology department with right pleural effusion. A chest computed tomography (CT) scan showed an invasive right hilar tumour, adherent to the superior vena cava, pulmonary artery, main right bronchus, mediastinal pleura and pericardium with lymphangitic carcinomatosis of the right lung. Pleural biopsy revealed pleural metastasis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma, its primary lung origin being confirmed by immunohistochemistry. One month later, the patient developed an ulcer

Gingival recession is highly prevalent worldwide. It increases the risk for root caries and can interfere with patient comfort, function and esthetics. Progressive gingival recession also increases the risk of tooth loss secondary to clinical attachment loss. Although mitigating the causes of gingival recession decreases its incidence and severity, implementing practical management and prevention strategies in the clinical setting can be challenging. Identification of susceptible patients and evaluating them for the presence of modifiable risk exposures are essential first steps in developing

Gingival overgrowth is a common feature of periodontal diseases. Rarely it occurs as an unwanted side effect of drugs such as anticonvulsants mainly phenytoin, immunosuppressants like cyclosporine and calcium channel blockers particularly nifedipine. Among calcium channel blockers, nifedipine causes gingival overgrowth in 10% of patients whereas amlodipine-induced gingival overgrowth is very limited. Here we report four cases in hypertensives on amlodipine.

The myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is characterized by peripheral blood cytopenias and increased risk of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia. This syndrome affects blood cell production and behavior. MDS is difficult to diagnose because of the absence of symptoms in the early stage of the disease. Often it is accidentally discovered during a routine physical exam/blood test. Till date, only a few cases of gingival enlargement associated with MDS are reported in the literature. Here is a remarkable case of gingival enlargement heralding the presence of MDS.

OBJECTIVES: Side effect of medicamentous treatment in hypertension therapy and angina pectoris with calcium channel blockers related to fibrotic gingival enlargement were examined.
METHODS: In our study we deal with clinico-histopathological and microbiological knowledge from this field underpinned by two case reports treated with antihypertensive therapy using calcium channel blockers. In the first case report we were largely concerned with microbiological findings from the area of periodontal pseudopockets diagnosed through a DNA analysis and appropriate antibiotic therapy. In a patient tre

This article discusses the management of the facial gingival margin before and after tooth removal. Important factors including diagnostic assessment, wound healing, bone resorption and remodeling, gingival thickness, and gingival margin are reviewed, and key procedures suggested. Gingival thickness can have a major influence on the maintenance of the facial gingival margin over the longer term.

INTRODUCTION: Primary non-gestational extragonadal choriocarcinomas are uncommon and their head and neck localization more exceptional.
OBSERVATION: We report on a primary choriocarcinoma case of the mandibular gingivae in a 26-year-old woman who presented with pulmonary and renal metastasis. Complete response (clinical, biological and radiological) was achieved with combined chemotherapy according to APE regimen associating actinomycin, cisplatin and etoposid. The patient was free of disease 4 years after therapy completion.
DISCUSSION: Primary gingival mandibular choriocarcinoma is very ra

Periodontal disease, trauma, and congenital defects can result in both soft tissue and hard tissue defects that can present with aesthetic problems. The management of these problems may be limited to prevention or surgical management which can result in significant morbidity especially if a second surgical site for grafting is utilised. This article describes the various prosthodontic techniques to improve gingival aesthetics using contemporary materials such as gingivally coloured composite and gingivally coloured porcelain in addition to more traditional materials such as standard prosthetic

Gingival harmony is an important element in the esthetics of the smile. Clinicians need to have the essential knowledge to create an optimal soft-tissue profile around teeth and implant restorations. The goal of this article is to describe the requirements for ideal gingival architecture and techniques used to achieve them. The patient presentations in this article will demonstrate different aspects of esthetic soft-tissue surgery as well as treatment challenges and limitations.

INTRODUCTION: Congenital epulis (CE) of the newborn also known as congenital granular cell tumor or Neumann tumor is an uncommun benign tumour occuring in the anterior alveolar ridge of the jaws. It may interfer with breathing and feeding. In our study, we discuss the clinicopathologic and evolutive caracteristics and the diagnosis problems of this entity.
OBSERVATION: A newborn girl, two months old, presented at birth a nodular mass in the upper alveolar crete of the maxilla. The mass measured 1.5 cm and exhibited a smooth surface. Histologically, it was composed of diffuse sheets and cluste

BACKGROUND: Gingival enlargement is a clinical condition that has been widely studied and is directly associated with specific local or systemic conditions. It is very rare that gingival enlargement presents without a clear underlying etiology.
METHODS: A 24-year-old African American female presented with gingival enlargement that manifested postpartum and was most likely related to changes in estrogen/progesterone. The gingival enlargement was treated with non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapies.
RESULTS: There was no evidence of recurrence of the gingival enlargement at 9 years pos

INTRODUCTION: Drug-induced gingival enlargement is a well documented side effect with the use of phenytoin, cyclosporine and calcium channel blockers. The prevalence of gingival enlargement induced by calcium channel blockers is uncertain. Several studies show conflicting results ranging from 20% to 83%. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of gingival enlargement in patients taking antihypertensive medication.
METHODS: All consecutive patients on antihypertensive agents attending the Dental OPD were studied. The prevalence of drug induced gingival enlargement was determined.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is a rare gingival lesion that presents as localized or generalized enlargement of the attached gingiva. The gingiva is characterized as pink, firm, and very fibrous, with little tendency to bleed. HGF can present as an isolated feature or as part of a syndrome. Recent findings report a defect in the Son of sevenless-1 gene on chromosome 2p21-p22 (HGF1) as a possible cause of this clinical presentation. HGF inheritance is transmitted through both autosomal dominant and recessive modes. While clinicians disagree on the modalities and timing of treatment fo
