Ampullary pyogenic granuloma as a complication of lacrimal plug migration.

We present a patient with ampullary pyogenic granuloma caused by spontaneous migration of a silicone lacrimal plug. A 43-year-old woman with severely dry eyes was treated with non-absorbable silicone punctal plugs insertion in both superior and inferior puncta. Irritation and purulent discharge gradually developed 3 weeks after implantation. A pink, fleshly ampullary lesion over the left superior punctum was noted later. The migrated silicone plug was found close to the common canaliculus during surgery. Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma. A migrated lacr

Quadhelix appliance therapy resulting in pyogenic granuloma of the tongue.

This paper describes the examination, diagnosis and treatment of a rapidly enlarging tongue mass presenting in a healthy 12-year-old girl. This mass caused distress to both the patient and her parents and diagnostic uncertainty for her general medical and dental practitioners. The lesion was in fact caused by an orthodontic quadhelix appliance and responded to simple treatment.

Pyogenic granuloma-like lesions in a patient using topical tretinoin.

A 16-year-old male developed numerous pyogenic granuloma like-lesions across his neck, chest and back after 6 weeks isotretinoin therapy for cystic acne. The isotretinoin was ceased and he was commenced on oral steroids. After 6 weeks, the lesions were almost completely healed. However, due to worsening comedonal acne, the patient was commenced on topical tretinoin cream 0.05% twice daily to his chest. He was reviewed 2 weeks later and, surprisingly, 2 new pyogenic granuloma-like lesions had developed on his chest. These lesions persisted until the topical tretinoin was ceased 3 months later.

Kaposi's sarcoma masquerading as pyogenic granuloma of the nasal mucosa.

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a neoplastic vascular disorder characterized by multiple reddish blue nodules which, according to the original description (Kaposi, 1872), usually present on the skin of the upper and lower extremities. It is not until the disease progresses that nodules appear on the skin of the head and neck, on mucosal membranes and as visceral lesions. However, with the large increase in the incidence of this tumour associated with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) epidemic, there have been increasing numbers of cases of Kaposi's sarcoma presenting primarily on the ski

Pyogenic granuloma stimulates angiogenesis in the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane.

Ten samples of pyogenic granuloma and 10 of normal skin from age- and sex-matched controls were grafted onto the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) to investigate their possible angiogenic activity. The angiogenic response in pathological and control implants was assessed on histologic sections by a planimetric point-count method 4 days after grafting. The CAM mast cells were also quantified. The vascular counts in the area underlying the pyogenic granuloma were four times higher than those of normal skin. A higher number of mucosa-like mast cells was detected in the intermediate mese

Pyogenic granuloma associated with guided tissue regeneration: a case report.

A pyogenic granuloma is an exuberant growth of granulation tissue secondary to irritation. Intraorally, it can present with a wide array of clinical appearances, ranging from a sessile lesion to an elevated mass. Pyogenic granulomas generally are soft, painless, and deep red to reddish-purple in color. They are usually 0.5 to 1.0 cm in diameter, more common in females, and often found on the keratinized tissue. This case is interesting because the pyogenic granuloma was found associated with guided tissue regeneration and the lingual alveolar mucosa. The lesion arose after demineralized freeze

The abnormal dermis in pyogenic granuloma. Histochemical and ultrastructural observations.

The connective and vascular tissues of pyogenic granulomas have been studied in lesions from forty-six patients. Twenty were studied histochemically, and five were examined ultrastructurally. Both tissues showed a wide range of maturity and cellular activity. The fibroblasts in particular showed evidence of increased synthetic activity. Intranuclear inclusion bodies, suggestive of altered synthetic activity, were found in the endothelial cells of four lesions. It is suggested that pyogenic granuloma arises from disordered growth of papillary dermis.

Metastatic Lung Carcinoma Presenting as Pyogenic Granuloma Around Dental Implant.

Oral cavity metastases are uncommon and may clinically present as swelling or mass formation. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign periodontal lesion that often appears as a bleeding mass. Both lesions can develop around dental implants, complicating diagnosis. This report presents a lung carcinoma metastasis mimicking peri-implant pyogenic granuloma lesion.

Cutaneous Metastasis Mimicking a Pyogenic Granuloma Revealing Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignancy that can, in rare cases, present initially with cutaneous metastases, often reflecting an advanced stage. We report the case of a 71-year-old asymptomatic patient who presented with a gradually enlarging, raised lesion on the face over two years, clinically resembling a pyogenic granuloma. An excisional biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of cutaneous metastasis from clear cell RCC. Further staging investigations revealed a mass in the upper pole of the left renal cortex, a suspicious lesion in the lower pole, and bilateral pulmonary nodules, suggesting me

Electrocautery-Assisted Management of Unilateral Pyogenic Granuloma: A Case Report.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) refers to an acquired benign proliferation most commonly seen within the oral cavity involving lips, palate, and gingiva. The term is misleading since it is a type of lobular capillary haemangioma but not an infection. It frequently recurs but lacks the capacity for malignant alteration. Depending on where the PG is located, one may experience discomfort or irritation. PGs often lead to differential diagnoses by clinicians, which include capillary hemangioma, neurofibroma, melanoma, and hyperplasia. Therefore, one must confirm a PG by diagnosing and analysing it by clin

Progeria Presenting with Pyogenic Granuloma in Conjunctiva: A Case Report.

Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome frequently exhibits stunted growth and premature ageing. Notable ocular characteristics can encompass a large number of ocular abnormalities. Here, we report a case of a 17-year-old female who presented with complaints of a red bump not resolving with medications in her right eye for 3 months. On excisional biopsy, the mass was found to be a pyogenic granuloma. The occurrence of pyogenic granuloma in a patient with progeria is extremely rare. This highlights the importance of considering atypical presentations and potential complications in patients with Hu

Urethral pyogenic granuloma in an adult patient: Presentation and management.

Pyogenic granulomas (PGs) are benign vascular tumors that are commonly found on cutaneous and mucosal surfaces. However, mucosal PGs are rarely found in the urogenital tract. Here, we report a case of PG arising from the urethra in a 68 year-old female. The mass was found during evaluation for vaginal prolapse, excised, and classified as PG by histopathology. Urethral PG has been rarely reported in adults and should be considered in the differential for patients presenting with urethral mass.

Merkel Cell Carcinoma Mimicking a Pyogenic Granuloma on the Thumb.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive skin cancer that can present with various clinical manifestations. An 80-year-old male, known to have chronic lymphocytic leukaemia presented with a lesion on his left thumb, initially thought to be a pyogenic granuloma. The lesion was cauterized with silver nitrate but remained persistent. A curettage biopsy was performed, and a histopathological examination revealed MCC. The patient was subsequently referred to dermatology and plastic surgery for further management. The lesion was excised; a full-thickness skin graft was used to close the
