The complaints and dietary habits of sixteen patients with gastritis and fourteen with undefined abdominal pain were studied by recording method. The results showed that the symptoms of the patients with gastritis and undefined abdominal pain were similar and mostly postprandial and they can be regarded as local (abdominal pain, meteorism, discomfort and heartburn) and/or general (sweating, nausea and faintness). The current research findings of the authors, together with those recently published by other workers in related fields, are reviewed. The groups discussed have been selected, either because detailed studies have been made on them, or because their food habits are sufficiently different from the majority of the population to attract attention, or create problems for them in areas like school meals, hospital catering and other non-domestic feeding situations. Many case studies on minority ethnic groups have been concerned with the social, structural and economic patterns of these communities. K…

This study aimed to identify the associations between movement behaviors and food consumption, lifestyle, and health status (self-perception of health status and body image) of Brazilian adolescents. A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the 2019 National School Health Survey regarding accumulated physical activity (PA) in different domains and sedentary behavior (SB) assessed by screen or television time. PA and SB were grouped and categorized into movement behavior profiles. Associations performed using Poisson regression were adjusted for sex, age, race or skin color, and ma

The approach to physical activity in patients with epilepsy has substantially changed over the last decade. Despite multiple positive effects of physical activity on general health and well-being, patients with epilepsy have long been advised not to engage in sports activities. Recent studies have led physicians to formulate updated recommendations and to encourage patients to remain active. It has been demonstrated that sport does not increase seizure prevalence, and the rate of sport-induced injuries in people with epilepsy is comparable to that of the general population. Additionally, physi

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignant tumor that originates from the epithelial cells of the colon and rectum. Global epidemiological data shows that in 2020, the incidence and mortality rate of CRC ranked third and second, respectively, posing a serious threat to people's health and lives. The factors influencing CRC are numerous and can be broadly categorized as modifiable and non-modifiable based on whether they can be managed or intervened upon. Non-modifiable factors include age, gender, family history, among others. Among the modifiable factors, dietary habits and behavioral practices a…

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between orthodontic malocclusion and parafunctional habits, including atypical swallowing, mouth breathing and drooling, in children with cerebral palsy (CP).
METHODS: Fifty-one children with CP (ages 6-14) from the Spastic Children Foundation were assessed. Drooling, lip incompetence and malocclusion were evaluated using the Balasco and Ballard methods, Angle Classification and WHO standards. Soft tissue relations, facial type, profile and face ratios were examined via extraoral assessment and photo analysis. Fisher's exact test was…

Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases affecting the spine and peripheral joints, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. This narrative review examines how lifestyle factors-specifically smoking, alcohol consumption, and unhealthy diet-contribute to the onset and progression of SpA. It highlights their impact on disease activity, comorbidities, radiographic damage, and treatment response. Therefore, healthcare providers are encouraged to support patients in making personalized lifestyle changes. These findings underscore the importance of a comprehensive ap

We report a rare case of nephrocolic fistula in a 56-year-old female presenting with a three-month history of altered bowel habits. Initial colonoscopy revealed a sinus tract in the descending colon. Her hemoglobin was 79 g/L, and she had a history of nephrolithiasis and trauma. Further imaging, including CT and contrast studies, confirmed a nephrocolic fistula. Surgical intervention involved left hemicolectomy, excision of the fistula tract, and renal repair. This case highlights the importance of considering nephrocolic fistula in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms and a history of urin…

Raising awareness about sun protection is an ongoing challenge. In 2018, a Survey Monkey questionnaire was distributed among healthcare professionals in the United Kingdom looking at their own habits of sunscreen usage. A total of 165 responses were collected. Eighty-nine percent of our respondents would use sunscreen when outdoors 11am-3pm on a cloudless, sunny day in August in the UK. However, only 27% of these healthcare professionals would regularly reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. The most important reason for using sunscreen was avoiding sunburn (importance weighted average of 4.71, on a…

BACKGROUND: Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder in which there is an increased risk of developing clinical comorbidities that require regular attention: health problems, alterations in maxillomandibular development, chewing and swallowing problems, as well as dietary habits that may influence diet and nutritional status. This study will analyze the frequency of occurrence of these factors with increasing age in this population.
METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 18 participants aged 30-45 years. The condition of orofacial structures, chewing and swallowing fu…

CONTEXT: Exercise has been shown to improve gait in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). Stepping practice at higher intensity levels has been suggested as a beneficial treatment option to improve gait in the neurological population. Unfortunately, this mode is poorly understood and underutilized within the PD population. Information on what individuals with PD are doing for exercise would be beneficial to help tailor exercise programs to improve gait and provide exercise options in the community for intensity-based exercise.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the current exercise habits of indi…

BACKGROUND: Nonnutritive sucking can turn into a continuous behavior practiced unconsciously, leading to a deleterious oral habit. Digit-sucking habits are an important etiological factor for malocclusion.
AIM: To investigate the effect of the digit-sucking habit on dentofacial structures by employing a cephalometric analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Selected 120 children were grouped as 60 with the digit-sucking habit and 60 without the digit-sucking habit in the age ranging between 6 and 12 years without gender discrimination. All were subjected to the standardized cephalometric technique, …
