Evolution of occupational health risks among waste incinerator workers: A four-decade review.

This review synthesizes four decades of global research (1980 to 2025) on occupational health risks among workers in municipal, medical, and hazardous waste incineration facilities. It examines how evolving technologies, waste streams, and regulations have shaped exposure patterns and health outcomes. Early studies reported high exposures to dioxins and heavy metals, linked to respiratory illness, skin conditions, and potential cancer risks. While modern emission controls have substantially lowered exposures, especially in high-income countries, residual risks to the respiratory, cardiovascula

Digital human modeling for occupational health of rice mill workers in manual materials handling.

BackgroundHeavy loads are carried out manually by rice mill workers, which causes a considerably high compressive force on the spine, particularly in the L4-L5 region.ObjectiveTo assess the posture and discomfort experienced by the rice mill workers in manual materials handling (MMH) tasks. To estimate the moment and back compressive force (BCF) at L4-L5 using digital human modeling (DHM).MethodsThe posture of 12 males was measured for three MMH tasks and three modes of load carrying. The measured posture was analyzed using the Kinovea software. A manikin was developed using CATIA software to

Advancements in Cardiac Catheterization Safety: Novel Radiation Protection Approaches Redefining Occupational Health.

Radiation exposure poses a substantial occupational risk for healthcare professionals in the catheterization laboratory (cath lab). The escalating complexity and frequency of interventional procedures, such as cardiac catheterizations and percutaneous coronary interventions, underscore the need for innovative strategies to mitigate radiation exposure. While traditional measures like lead aprons, thyroid collars, and goggles have been pivotal in reducing radiation exposure, they have limitations, especially during prolonged and intricate procedures. Consequently, there is a growing demand for a

Occupational buckwheat allergy in a health food store employee: From inhalative exposure to anaphylaxis.

BACKGROUND: Buckwheat allergy is common in East Asian countries with high buckwheat consumption. However, with increasing popularity of buckwheat as a gluten-free food, it is also expected to become more widespread in Europe. CASE REPORT: A health food store employee experienced anaphylaxis with urticaria, angioedema, and dyspnea after eating a slice of buckwheat bread. Prior to this reaction, the patient had repeatedly noticed rhinoconjunctival itching and sneezing when handling buckwheat. A positive skin prick test with buckwheat flour and elevated specific IgE levels to buckwheat confirmed

Evaluating PAH exposure and occupational health in petrochemical sector: a focus on POL depot workers.

This investigation delineates occupational health concerns related to petroleum products handling at Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) depots. The cohort included 117 workers from depots in Sihala, Risalpur and Lahore, alongside 69 controls. A strong correlation was found between specific job-related tasks, such as direct fuel handling, equipment maintenance, and tanker offloading, and urinary Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) metabolites in exposed workers. Labourers and firemen displayed significantly higher (p < 0.01) urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (6.9 ± 1.7 and 5.8 ± 2.2 ng g-1 creatinine) c

Occupational Risks of Podologists: A Combined Assessment of VOCs, Vibration, Noise Levels and Health Complaints.

Podologists are exposed to many occupational hazards, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from insole manufacturing and noise/vibration during nail or tissue grinding. In this study, VOCs, noise, and vibration were measured in five podiatry clinics and three offices. Questionnaires were administered to 23 podologists and 19 office workers to inquire about their pain, ocular, skin and respiratory complaints. The results showed that the podologists' exposure to the total VOC concentrations was approximately twice as high as that of the office workers. The podologists' complaints regardin

Occupational physicians dealing with mental health: between employee and company interests: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Occupational health physicians are increasingly confronted with mental health issues at their workplace. Facing them, most of them feel insecure and not sufficiently trained. Employee's mental well-being depends at the same time on individual and significantly on organizational variables. This complicates the physician's position, since they have to serve many interests. The focus of the present study is to investigate what difficulties occupational health physicians face and how organizational culture and management influence their work. METHODS: Interviews were conducted with N

Occupational Health Development and Safety Management of Enterprise Employees Based on the Perspective of Sustainable Environment.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

In recent years, the economy of enterprises has developed rapidly. Most enterprises focus on economic interests and ignore the occupational health of employees, resulting in an increase in the occupational morbidity rate of employees. Occupational insecurity of corporate employees will reduce the work efficiency of employees. In turn, it will affect the economic development of the enterprise. Paying attention to the occupational health and safety development of corporate employees is a necessary measure for corporate economic development. Occupation-Related Biological Health Hazards and Infection Control Practices among Indian Veterinarians.

Veterinarians experience different types of health hazards from their occupation. Studies on the prevalence and occurrence of biological health hazards in veterinary medicine in India are scant and probably underreported. Thus, we sought to assess the biological health hazards and infection control practices (ICPs) among veterinarians from the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, India. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among veterinarians (n = 562) from Gujarat and Maharashtra states in India to identify biological health hazards and ICPs for the prevention of occupational health hazards d

Home care workers' experiences of work conditions related to their occupational health: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: The need for home care workers (HCWs) is rapidly growing in Norway due to the increasingly growing elderly population. HCWs are exposed to a number of occupational hazards and physically demanding work tasks. Musculoskeletal disorders, stress, exhaustion, high sick leave rates and a high probability of being granted a disability pension are common challenges. This qualitative study explored the views of HCWs on how working conditions affect their safety, health, and wellbeing. METHODS: A descriptive and explorative design was utilised using semi-structured individual interviews wi

Occupational health hazards of street cleaners - a literature review considering prevention practices at the workplace.

Street cleaning is an integral part of the solid waste management system. There are different ways to achieve clean streets depending on the availability of equipment, the type and magnitude of dirt, the surface conditions encountered or traffic conditions. In general, hand sweeping by an individual worker or a group, hose flushing, or machine sweeping or flushing are applied. In order to obtain information about the occurrence and relevance of occupational health hazards of street cleaners, the current international literature, as well as corresponding German regulations, were reviewed and ev
