OBJECTIVES: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of hysteroscopy in the diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia in women with abnormal uterine bleeding.
METHODS: From 1993 through 1995, 980 women referred to our institution for abnormal uterine bleeding underwent diagnostic hysteroscopy with eye direct biopsy of the endometrium in case of macroscopic abnormalities. The rare case of a 19-year-old man with fibromuscular hyperplasia (FMH) affecting several arteries with tubular stenosis and occlusions is presented. Involved were both internal carotid arteries, the right renal artery, celiac axis and the superior mesenteric artery. The disease pattern of FMH is discussed regarding frequency, vascular morphology and differential diagnosis.

Parathyroid hyperplasia is second only to adenoma as the most common cause of hyperparathyroidism. Symptoms are most likely to result from elevated serum calcium levels. Symptoms include nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis. Studies that may help confirm a suspected diagnosis include ultrasonography, computed tomography, radionuclide scanning with thallium and/or technetium, and magnetic resonance imaging. Surgical treatment consists of excision of all but part of one parathyroid gland if all of the glands are enlarged.

In a randomised, double-blind study, the preparation Curbicin, obtained from pumpkin seeds and dwarf palm plants (Cucurbita pepo L. and Sabal serrulata), was compared with a placebo in the treatment of symptoms caused by prostatic hyperplasia; 53 patients took part in the study, which was carried out over a 3-month period. Urinary flow, micturition time, residual urine, frequency of micturition and a subjective assessment of the effect of treatment were all significantly improved in the treatment group. No untoward side effects were noted.

Signs of hyperplasia of the lymph nodules of the antral part of the stomach (HLNAPS) were revealed in 352 adults and 213 children during esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Endoscopic, clinical and morphological signs of this disease were described. HLNAPS resistance to common antiulcerative therapy was noted. The necessity of biopsy to specify this disease was emphasized.

In the nipple, the process produces a distinct clinicopathological entity referred to as nipple adenoma or florid papillomatosis (FP). A case of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia of the hand is described. This tumor has also been described as subcutaneous angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia and as an atypical pyogenic granuloma. It usually occurs in the head or neck. This highly recurrent tumor has not been previously described in the hand. It was completely excised and had not recurred 4 years after surgery.
