Forty patients were diagnosed by hysterosalpingography and/or ultrasound as having septate uterus which were assumed to be responsible for their recurrent abortions (35 cases) or infertility (5 cases). All patients, who have not had children yet, had abdominal metroplasty: 27 became pregnant; of their 37 pregnancies 28 continued to term (all but two with delivery by cesarean section) and 9 aborted including 1 hydatidiform mole and 4 blighted ovum, which were due probably not to uterinal but genetic and/or andrologic causes.

There has been made an analysis of 45 cases of women's oviductal infertility qualified to surgical treatment. In search of the reasons of infertility these patients underwent hysterosalpingographic examination and 24 of them additionally, diagnostic laparoscopy with chromotubation. From 1983 to 1990 15 metroplasties were carried out at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Greifswald. 11 of these operations were combined with a microsurgical tubal operation. A review of 1035 hysterosalpingographies (HSG) has shown a frequency of acquired and congenital morphological alteration in 272 patients with spontaneous abortion and in 763 infertile couples. We reported a female case of painful thyroiditis occurring after hysterosalpingography and investigated whether the destructive thyroiditis was iodine-induced. The patient, aged 28, had TBG deficiency and the previous episode of thyrotoxicosis caused by Graves' disease.
