BK polyomavirus mostly manifests as polyomavirus-associated nephropathy (PyVAN) in kidney transplant patients and polyoma virus-associated hemorrhagic cystitis (PyVHC) in bone marrow transplant patients. PyVHC in kidney transplant patients is only reported in four cases in the literature. Our patient had severe hemorrhagic cystitis without renal involvement. We postulate that our patient's exposure to ifosfamide and radiation 8 years prior transplantation might predispose him to this disease.

Primary cardiac osteosarcomas are uncommon tumors. They have an aggressive biology and hence poor prognosis. This report describes a 23-year-old male patient who was referred to our hospital with chest pain. Echocardiography showed a left atrial mass, and tumor excision revealed a cardiac osteosarcoma. Adjuvant cisplatin plus ifosfamide combination chemotherapy provided a disease-free survival of 9 months; unfortunately the patient died of metastatic disease thereafter.

BACKGROUND: Ewing sarcoma (ES) is one of the most frequent sarcomas in children and young adults. Dose-intensified induction with vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide and etoposide (VDC/IE) proved to be more efficient than vincristine, ifosfamide, doxorubicin and etoposide (VIDE) and has emerged as a new standard. Here, we analyzed peripheral blood (pB) and stem-cell yields of adult patients after the induction with VDC/IE and compared them with historic control after VIDE induction.

A 22-year-old man was diagnosed with retroperitoneal seminoma associated with Klinefelter's syndrome. The tumor was 14 x 12 cm in size and surrounded the superior mesenteric artery. He received induction chemotherapy with bleomycin, etoposide and cisplatin (BEP) followed by salvage chemotherapy with paclitaxel, ifosfamide and cisplatin (TIP). The tumor considerably decreased in size and remains as a poorly defined plaque. At the time of writing, he is being followed closely and is free from progression.

Children with recurrent hepatoblastoma have a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. The authors describe a child with metastatic hepatoblastoma who had multiple relapses. He was treated with surgical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy at first relapse. At second relapse, he had progressive disease postresection. He was treated with ifosfamide/carboplatin/etoposide chemotherapy followed by maintenance irinotecan and achieved long-term disease-free survival. Irinotecan as maintenance should be explored in recurrent hepatoblastoma.

A malignant peripheral nerve-sheath tumour developed in the right S1 nerve root in a man aged 30 causing back pain and sciatica. CT and MRI revealed a destructive tumour of the sacrum invading the retroperitoneal space. The tumour was not resectable with an adequate margin. Chemotherapy, consisting of high-dose ifosfamide followed by a combination of vincristine, doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide, was given with success. Malignant peripheral nerve-sheath tumours are thought to respond weakly to chemotherapy, but the response in our patient was complete.

We report an observation of angiosarcoma of the pulmonary artery in a 65-year-old man hospitalized for acute dyspnea revealing a left mass hilaire which arose from the pulmonary artery before the development of obstructive endobronchial extension. The therapeutic sequence associated removal of the lobar bronchus obstruction by interventional endoscopy, chemotherapy using ifosfamide-doxorubicin, complete left pneumonectomy and auxiliary chemotherapy with 2 additional cycles. The patient was free of tumor relapse at nearly 3 years follow-up.

We report the case of a heavily pretreated male subject affected by left funiculus liposarcoma and successfully treated with eribulin mesylate. After three surgical interventions, radiotherapy on the lesion of the penile bulb for satellite nodules and an epirubicin + ifosfamide chemotherapy treatment for six cycles, eribulin was administered at the dose of 1.1 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8, every 3 weeks for a total of nine cycles. A significant reduction of the lesions was achieved after four cycles of therapy, with a good profile of tolerability.

Proximal epithelioid sarcoma (PES) originating from the pleura is a clinical entity rarely reported in the literature. We report the case of a young patient with immediately metastatic proximal epithelioid sarcoma (PES) treated at the Department of Medical Oncology, Fes. Treatment consisted of chemotherapy based on doxorubicin and ifosfamide. After the first cycle of chemotherapy, the disease led to a fatal outcome. Our case study highlights the potentially aggressive behaviour of PES which represents a clinical trap and can be life-threatening.

Liver dysfunction in patients with lymphoma presents an important clinical dilemma because it limits the use of anthracyclines and vinca alkaloids for this potentially curable malignancy. Patients are typically treated with corticosteroids, rituximab and the nitrogen mustard mechlorethamine, and then transitioned to definitive therapy after improvement in liver function.
