Understanding digital diffusion and online decision-making in public health promotion: a sequential mixed-methods study of the violence prevention charter in Canada.

Digital environments have become important settings for public health promotion, yet dissemination alone does not explain why individuals and organizations choose to adopt and act on public health information. Understanding digital diffusion requires attention to temporal patterns of adoption, the social networks through which information and influence circulate, and the contextual conditions that shape decision-making. This sequential mixed-methods single case study examined the dissemination and voluntary adoption of the Violence Prevention Charter, a principles-based public health initiativ

Embedding FAIR Data Practices in Shared Core Resource Facilities.

Data fragmentation, lack of standardization, and incomplete clinical context limit the utility and reuse of datasets in biomedical research. Core facilities (shared resources) generate a large portion of research data and are well positioned to implement FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data practices to align with the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. This article highlights strategies for incorporating FAIR data practices into core facility workflows. Core facilities generate diverse data types across multiple platforms. However, variability in data formats and

Limited evidence that reputation-based partner choice facilitates information sharing in humans.

A necessary prerequisite for the accumulation of beneficial knowledge, or 'cumulative cultural evolution', is the sharing of information via social learning. Yet little work in the field of cultural evolution has examined the mechanisms that support information sharing in the face of exploitative information free-riding and information hoarding. We ran a series of online interactive experiments (N = 716) combined with computational reinforcement and social learning models to test whether the mechanism of reputation-based partner choice can effectively support information sharing. Participants

Empowering knowledge dissemination: a 5A model for health professionals in IVF health communication through short videos.

BACKGROUND: Patients increasingly rely on social media for IVF-related information; however, the quality of such content remains suboptimal. Health professionals who receive systematic medical education possess disciplinary knowledge that supports the production of accurate health communication. Engaging in health communication can strengthen their ability to translate specialized knowledge into accessible language, a skill that also connects with the competence of continuing medical education. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate IVF-related short videos on Douyin and to propose a practi

Perspectives on Health Data Sharing Among Patients With Somatic and Mental Health Diseases: Focus Group Study.

BACKGROUND: The German Health Data Utilization Act and the Digital Act aim to enhance health data sharing for health care and research in Germany and beyond while ensuring robust data protection. A key prerequisite is patients' willingness to share their data for primary use (PU), such as medical care, and secondary use (SU), such as research. There is a lack of qualitative research examining patients' perspectives on data sharing under the new legal framework, especially among vulnerable groups, such as those with mental health diseases. OBJECTIVE: This study qualitatively examines the facto

Communicating wastewater-based surveillance data to drive action.

As exemplified during the COVID-19 pandemic, wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) can deliver near real-time, population-level pathogen data to guide public health action. Its impact, however, hinges on timely, transparent, and context-specific communication to stakeholders, including health authorities, policymakers, scientists, clinicians, and the public. This review examines current WBS communication practices, identifies persistent challenges, and proposes strategies to enhance relevance. Key challenges include data complexity, lack of standardised communication frameworks, ethical and priv

YouTube as an information source for clubfoot: a quality analysis of video content.

Idiopathic clubfoot is the most common congenital anomaly of the lower extremity. YouTube has emerged as an important source of health-related information for patients and families. Parents seek information about clubfoot on YouTube. However, the quality of these videos remains unknown. Therefore, we decided to evaluate the quality of YouTube videos about clubfoot. We searched YouTube for clubfoot videos using appropriate keywords. English language videos with more than 10 000 views were included. Three fellowship trained pediatric orthopedic surgeons independently assessed the videos and clas

Statins in a Distorted Mirror of Media.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Statins have proven efficacy with a favorable safety profile yet, despite being widely affordable, remain profoundly underutilized. Statins have acquired a bad reputation, which is likely contributing to high rates of nonadherence and discontinuation. The degree to which negative media perceptions contribute to underutilization is unclear. RECENT FINDINGS: The media has a key role in informing discussion on the public agenda but also on how issues are framed. In this context, the majority of studies evaluating news coverage suggest that the content on statins is predominant

[The scientific revolution in medicine of last quarter of XIX - first half of XX centuries: New approaches to diagnostic and treatment of diseases].

The article considers changes in mass physician consciousness approaches to diagnostic and treatment of diseases occurred in the end of XIX-first half of XX centuries. It was the result of gaining a foothold in medicine of new view on organism as a procedural system and concepts of diseases as a complex feedback reaction of this system to unfavorable effect of environmental factors. It is demonstrated that the major change in diagnostic became refusal of traditional for XIX century orientation of diagnostic search exclusively on “clinical prediction of pathological picture" in favor of complex

Collection, verification, sharing and dissemination of data: the CONTRAST experience.

The scientific community is charged with growing demands regarding the management of project data and outputs and the dissemination of key results to various stakeholders. We discuss experiences and lessons from CONTRAST, a multidisciplinary alliance that had been funded by the European Commission over a 4-year period, in order to optimize schistosomiasis control and transmission surveillance in sub-Saharan Africa. From the start, project partners from Europe and Africa set out an ambitious goal: to sample data following standard protocols at all field sites and then sharing the data in a way

Linking local knowledge with global action: examining the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria through a knowledge system lens.

New global public health institutions are increasingly emphasizing transparency in decision-making, developing-country ownership of projects and programmes, and merit- and performance-based funding. Such principles imply an institutional response to the challenge of bridging the "know-do gap", by basing decisions explicitly on results, evidence and best practice. Using a knowledge systems framework, we examine how the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has affected the ways in which knowledge is used in efforts to combat these three diseases. We outline the formal knowledge sy
