Psychometric validation of ICF Rehabilitation Set-17 through item response theory and network analysis: implications for standardized functioning assessment in Chinese inpatient rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) offers a comprehensive biopsychosocial model widely used to capture functioning and disability status. The development of the national assessment standard regarding the ICF-Rehabilitation Set (ICF-RS)-17 represents the first step in implementing value-based healthcare (VBHC) in China. However, studies relating the ICF to managing goal setting and guiding VBHC are scarce. AIM: This study aims to investigate the psychometric properties of the ICF-17 and further tailor goal settings in inpatient rehabilitati…

Validating the UNICEF/Washington Group Child Functioning Module for Fijian schools to identify seeing, hearing and walking difficulties.

PURPOSE: This study investigated the seeing, hearing and walking questions of the UNICEF/Washington Group Child Functioning Module and the inter-rater reliability between teachers and parents as proxy respondents. METHODS: Cross-sectional diagnostic accuracy study, two-gate design with representative sampling, comparing Module responses to reference standard assessments for 472 primary aged students in Fiji. Receiver operating characteristic curves were constructed to determine the area under the curve and optimal cut-off points. RESULTS: Areas under the curves ranged from 0.823 to 0.889 ind

Determinants of school activity performance in children with cerebral palsy: a multidimensional approach using the ICF-CY as a framework.

This study aimed to identify the determinants of activity performance in children with cerebral palsy (CP) in school by considering factors from the entire scope of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health for Child and Youth (ICF-CY). A sample of 167 school-aged children with CP and their caregivers were recruited in the study. Activity performance in school settings was assessed with part 3 of the School Functional Assessment - Chinese version, which divides activity performance into performance of physical activities and cognitive/behavioral activities. Possib

The factors were categorized into themes and mapped to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). RESULTS: 148 studies were included. 708 factors were categorized into 39 themes (e.g. pain) and mapped to the ICF components. The themes were primarily mapped to "body functions and structures" (n = 26) and rarely to "activities and particip …

Disability and recovery in schizophrenia: a systematic review of cognitive behavioral therapy interventions.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a disabling disease that impacts all major life areas. There is a growing need for meeting the challenge of disability from a perspective that extends symptomatic reduction. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically review the extent to which traditional and "third wave" cognitive - behavioral (CBT) interventions address the whole scope of disabilities experienced by people with lived experience of schizophrenia using the WHO's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as a frame of reference. It also explores if current CBT inter…

A comparative ICF-CY-based analysis and cultural piloting of the assessment of preschool children's participation (APCP).

AIMS: The aim of this study was to assess and compare the content and measurement construct of a new measure, the Assessment of Preschool Children's Participation (APCP), with other participation measures that have previously been linked to the ICF-CY, and pilot the APCP item relevance in a Norwegian context. METHODS: All meaningful concepts in the APCP were linked to the ICF-CY and compared with the links of eight other preschool measures. The analysis of measurement construct was based on the attending/doing and involvement/engagement dimensions of participation. The pilot study was a surve

Parametrization is -performed according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health ICF. Following this schema, -dysphonia is graded as follows: 1) No dysphonia (no problem, percentile 0-4) impairment of the whole person 0%, 2) Slight, strain-induced dysphonia (slight problem, percent…

The Impact of Virtual Reality as a Rehabilitation Method Using TRAVEE System on Functional Outcomes and Disability in Stroke Patients: A Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is the third leading cause of disability. Virtual reality (VR) has shown promising results in post-stroke rehabilitation. The VR TRAVEE system was designed for the neuromotor rehabilitation of the upper limb after a stroke and offers the ability to track limb movements by providing auditory feedback and visual augmentation. The World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0), aligned with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) principles, is a valid tool for measuring disability regardless of its cause. The Role of Cognitive Functioning in the ICF Framework: A Systematic Review of Its Influence on Activities and Participation and Environmental Factors in People with Cerebral Palsy.

Background/Objectives: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common cause of motor disability in childhood and is frequently associated with cognitive impairments that limit autonomy and participation. While motor function is a known predictor of functional outcomes, the specific contribution of cognitive domains within the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework remains unexplored. This systematic review examines the relationship between cognitive domains and the ICF components of Activities and Participation, and Environmental Factors in people with CP. M…
