To observe the effects of Danshen on the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma in the SD rats, a model of malignant obstructive jaundice was established by inoculation of transplanted tumor into the hepatic portal with the walker-256 hepatocarcinoma line, which resulted in the obstruction by the infiltration and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma. During a 4-year period (1978-1982), 206 patients were examined with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) because of jaundice with suspected biliary obstruction. The total of examinations was 223. Duodenoscopy with ERCP gave a positive primary diagnosis in 160 cases (78%), six (4%) of which later proved to be incorrect. Extrahepatic obstruction could be excluded in 16 patients with normal cholangiogram (8%). Clinically relevant information thus was obtained in 176 cases (85%). Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) has a wide spectrum of presentation. Most cases affect lymph nodes (nodal), while extranodal involvement is rare. Whereas the gastrointestinal tract is enriched with lymphoid tissues, the ampulla of Vater is not rich in lymphoid tissue. Involvement of the ampulla of Vater with HL has rarely been reported in adults and has never been reported in children. BACKGROUND: This study investigates the effects of Turkish rose oil (Rosa damascena) on liver damage in rats with experimentally induced obstructive jaundice.
METHODS: A total of 40 Wistar-Albino rats were divided into three groups: Sham (control), Obstructive Jaundice (OJ), and Rose Oil treatment (RO). CONTEXT: Malignant melanoma commonly metastasizes to the small intestine where it can cause pain, bleeding, and obstruction. However, jaundice from metastatic melanoma is relatively uncommon.
CASE REPORT: A case of known malignant melanoma presenting as new onset obstructive jaundice as a result of a rarely reported metastasis to the ampulla of Vater.
CONCLUSION: Multidisciplinary management of patients with metastatic melanoma is essential.

INTRODUCTION: Though uncommon, extramedullary plasmacytoma of the pancreas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of obstructive jaundice and pancreatic neoplasms. CONTEXT: Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas such as mycosis fungoides are uncommon neoplasms with a long and often relatively indolent course. Some eventually metastasize to lymph nodes or visceral organs but there are to our knowledge only two prior reports which describe clinically relevant pancreas involvement.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 52-year-old man with mycosis fungoides who developed abdominal pain and jaundice. Endoscopic ultrasound guided-fine needle aspiration biopsies of a peculiar infiltrative appearing mass in the head of the pancreas revealed T-cell lymphoma cells.

Obstructive jaundice secondary to tuberculosis (TB) is extremely rare. It can be caused by TB enlargement of the head of the pancreas, TB lymphadenitis, TB stricture of the biliary tree, or a TB mass of the retroperitoneum. The activity of enzymes, such as alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, and leicine aminopeptidase, was found to be increased in the serum and tear of 28 patients with obstructive jaundice. In malignant tumor-induced jaundice, the activity of the enzymes, the indicators of cholestasis, was higher than that in obstructive jaundice caused by extrahepatic bile duct calculi. A new method has been devised for noninvasive diagnosis of obstructive jaundice from tear enzyme immunoassay. The method is simple, reliable, and usable at a clinical laboratory.

A rare case of ectopic pancreas in the ampulla of Vater presented with obstructive jaundice. Ectopic pancreas is a common congenital disorder which is referred to as pancreatic rest. The incidence in autopsy series varies from 1 to 2% (range 0.55 to 13%). Most common site of ectopic pancreatic tissue is the stomach, although it can be found anywhere in the foregut and the proximal midgut. Ectopic pancreatic tissue in the ampulla of Vater is a very rare condition. Searching in the literature, using the terms "ectopic pancreas" and "Ampulla of Vater", we found only 10 records. A 45-year-old man was suffering from abdominal pain and vomiting. He was admitted to our hospital with a diagnosis of ileus and obstructive jaundice. He had undergone Roux-en-Y anastomosis for choledocholithiasis 14 years earlier. A computed tomography scan revealed a dilated afferent loop and dilated intrahepatic bile duct.
