The attempt at elimination of keratoconjunctivitis infectiosa bovis (IBK) was undertaken on Wolin island by active immunization. The clinical and zootechnical estimation of effectiveness of immunization with vaccine prepared on the basis of local, fimbrial strains of Moraxella bovis has been done. The immunization of large group of animals was done. Aerogenic immunization proved to be the most effective.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes mellitus is a multisystem disorder, which is one of the most prevalent and important non-infectious causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. While diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic cataracts are well-known complications, dry eye syndrome (DES), also referred to as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is also common in the diabetic population. If left untreated, severe dry eye may lead to eye inflammation, abrasion of the corneal surface, corneal ulcers, and vision loss. So, it is very important to diagnose it earlier as these devastating complications can be prevented.

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a chronic, bilateral, allergic conjunctivitis with episodes of acute exacerbations. Although VKC has a self-limiting course, chronic recurrent inflammation can cause long-term visual impairment due to corneal complications including shield ulcers, infectious keratitis, keratoconus, corneal opacities, and limbal stem cell deficiency. Double stranded RNA obtained from non-permissive E. coli cells infected with f2-phage was tested in 5 hospitals in viral dermtoses such as herpes simplex recidivans, herpes zoster, male genikeratonconjunctivitis herpetica and conjunctivitis lignosa. The results of clinical tests indicate that the preparation of phage double stranded RNA applied topically is harmless for man and has, in the majority of cases, a beneficial effect in the disease. This conclusion was based on the judgment of physicians, opinion of patients expressed in a questionnaire, and, results of a double-blind experiment.
