Transitions in and out of Loneliness During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Latent Class Analysis of Older Adults in England.

Disease control measures during the COVID-19 pandemic may have intensified loneliness among older adults, though experiences varied based on individual vulnerabilities and resources. This study examines loneliness trajectories among older adults using the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, spanning four waves: two pre-pandemic (Wave 8: 2016-2017; Wave 9: 2018-2019) and two COVID-19 substudies (June-July and November-December 2020). The sample included 4492 respondents (17,968 observations). Latent class growth analysis identified four loneliness trajectories: 'not lonely' (73.5%), 'pandemic

A Latent Class Analysis of Inhaled Medication Adherence and Influencing Factors in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

BACKGROUND: Adherence to inhaled medication adherence is critical for reducing the risk of acute exacerbations, controlling disease progression, improving quality of life and lowering healthcare costs in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, significant variability in adherence exists among patients. This study aimed to identify distinct patterns of inhaled medication adherence and their influencing factors using latent class analysis. METHODS: A total of 621 inpatients with COPD (85.3% men) hospitalised at a tertiary hospital between September and December 2023…

Social position and antidepressant dose trajectories: a latent class analysis of a french cohort linked to the reimbursement register.

PURPOSE: Antidepressant (AD) doses may vary depending on symptom severity over time. Individuals in lower social positions experience more severe and recurrent depressive episodes, yet it remains unclear whether and how their AD dosage reflects this higher burden. This study aimed to identify AD dose trajectories in a population-based sample and examine their associations with social position indicators. METHODS: We used data from the French CONSTANCES cohort linked to the national drug reimbursement register. We included incident AD users who initiated a selective serotonin reuptake inhibito

Societal recovery trajectories in people with a psychotic disorder in long term care: a latent class growth analysis.

PURPOSE: For many individuals with a psychotic disorder societal recovery is not accomplished. Research on societal recovery trajectories is mostly focussed on patients with a first episode psychosis. The present study aims to identify distinct societal trajectories in those with long duration of illness, through the identification of patient subgroups that are characterized by homogeneous trajectories. METHODS: Longitudinal data were used from an ongoing dynamic cohort in which people with a psychotic disorder receive yearly measurements to perform a latent class growth analysis. Societal fu

A latent class analysis of international change and continuity in adolescent health and wellbeing: A repeat cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Since the early 2000s, there have been marked trends in adolescent health and wellbeing indicators across Europe, North America and Australia. In particular, there have been substantial declines in youth drinking. We know little about how these trends are underpinned by co-occurring indicators within individuals. This paper aims to analyse change over time in how indicators cluster within individuals and differences in these patterns between five countries with different trends in youth drinking. METHODS: We analysed four waves of repeat cross-sectional survey data from 15-year-ol

Adolescent Nonsuicidal Self-Injury and Suicidality: A Latent Class Analysis and Associations with Clinical Characteristics in an At-Risk Cohort.

Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is frequently encountered in adolescents, but its predictive value for suicidality or other clinical characteristics is challenging due to its heterogeneous nature. This study used latent class analysis to identify subgroups of NSSI and compared these on sociodemographic characteristics, adverse outcomes and protective factors. The study included 966 high-risk adolescents, Mage 14.9 y, SD 0.9 y, 51.8% female. Four classes emerged: (1) "Low NSSI-Low suicidality", (2) "Moderate NSSI-Low suicidality", (3) "Moderate NSSI-High suicidality", and (4) "High NSSI-High sui…

Is Sexual Aversion a Distinct Disorder or a Trans-Diagnostic Symptom across Sexual Dysfunctions? A Latent Class Analysis.

Sexual aversion disorder (SAD) is a chronic condition that impacts sexual and psychological well-being. However, the relevance of SAD as a discrete disorder remains highly debated. This study aimed to clarify the status of SAD as either a distinct disorder or a trans-diagnostic symptom shared among sexual dysfunctions. This cross-sectional study used a latent class analysis approach among a Canadian community sample (n = 1,363) to identify how patterns of SAD symptoms (i.e., sexual fear, disgust, and avoidance) emerge across different spheres of sexual functioning (i.e., desire and arousal, er…

Patterns of sexual behaviour associated with repeated chlamydia testing and infection in men and women: a latent class analysis.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults are at higher risk of acquiring Chlamydia trachomatis infection (chlamydia), so testing is promoted in these populations. Studies have shown that re-testing for chlamydia is common amongst them. We investigated how sexual risk behaviour profiles are associated with repeated testing for chlamydia. METHODS: We used baseline data from a cohort of 2814 individuals recruited at an urban STI -clinic. We applied latent class (LC) analysis using 9 manifest variables on sexual behaviour and substance use self-reported by the study participants. We fitted ordere
