Supporting self-continuity during the hospital to community transition after acquired brain injury: A qualitative study of priorities, expectations and experiences of rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation during community integration after acquired brain injury (ABI) focuses on supporting individuals to make sense of and manage injury-related changes in the context of occupational engagement. To improve understanding of the role of rehabilitation in facilitating early adjustment to ABI, the study aimed to understand individuals' rehabilitation priorities and expectations at hospital discharge and experiences at 3-months post-discharge. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with adults with ABI at discharge (n = 28) and 3-months post-discharge (n = 24) from a brain injury reha

Overcoming Heroin Addiction without the Use of Pharmaceuticals: A Qualitative Interview Study.

Although opioid maintenance treatment lowers mortality and has proven efficacy in reducing opioid use, it is not an option for every person with an opioid addiction. Studies of the experiences of those who have overcome their addiction without pharmaceuticals are rare, but vital to understanding the quitting process and how it can be facilitated. This study investigated what persons with a previous heroin addiction perceived as helpful when overcoming their addiction without the use of pharmaceuticals, and what they consider important for health services to consider. Eleven adults with former

Measuring End-of-Life Care: Development of a National Questionnaire for Bereaved Family Members.

BACKGROUND: Evaluating end-of-life care quality remains a central challenge in health systems facing population ageing and complex chronic disease trajectories. Given the clinical challenges of direct data collection at the end-of-life, bereaved family members act as critical proxies, providing data on the care delivered in the final months of life. However, most available instruments lack the contextual sensitivity required for national-level epidemiological surveillance. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to develop and establish the face validity of a national questionnaire to evaluate the health

Exploring parents' perspectives on health technology to support communication in home-based pediatric palliative care: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Children eligible for palliative care represent a highly diverse population, making comprehensive, family-centered approaches essential. As many families value being at home and maintaining their daily activities and routines, healthcare services need to be tailored to each family's unique circumstances. Health technology offers promising support for home-based pediatric palliative care and has been suggested to enhance communication, coordination, and continuity of care. Despite growing interest, a significant research gap regarding the systematic integration of health technology

Strengthening congenital cardiac care in Vietnam: opportunities for system-level reform.

Critical CHD refers to life-threatening cardiac anomalies present at birth that require surgical or catheter-based intervention within the first year of life. Without punctual diagnosis and treatment, these conditions can result in significant morbidity or mortality. In high-income countries like the United States (U.S.), early detection and management of Critical CHD have been greatly improved through universal prenatal screening, pulse oximetry screening, regionalised care, and subspecialty training. In contrast, Vietnam, a low- and middle-income country, faces persistent challenges. The abs

Locked-In Syndrome: Practical Rehabilitation Management.

Locked-in syndrome is a rare and devastating condition that results in tetraplegia, lower cranial nerve paralysis, and anarthria with preserved cognition, vertical gaze, and upper eyelid movements. Although acute management is much like that of any severe stroke, rehabilitation and recovery of these patients have not been previously described. Challenges relevant to this population include blood pressure management and orthostasis, timing and appropriateness of reinstating oral feeding, ventilatory support, decannulation after tracheostomy, bowel and bladder management, vestibular dysfunction,

Investigation and analysis of mental health status of the older adult in western rural areas.

BACKGROUND: The mental health of the older adult in western rural areas is an area of growing concern. Mental health, as defined by the World Health Organization, encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being, affecting how individuals think, feel, and act. In this study, we operationalize mental health through four validated dimensions: depression (emotional well-being), anxiety (psychological stability), loneliness (social connectedness), and life satisfaction (overall subjective well-being), which together provide a comprehensive assessment of mental health status. Nor weak ties, nor strong ties: Personal support networks and relations between autistic peers.

The aim of this study is to analyze egocentric social networks of 31 autistic adults in Québec (Canada). We examined the composition of their proximal personal support network and the role of support shared among autistic peers. A mixed method analysis was used. An egocentric network questionnaire that included qualitative prompts was conducted to gather participants' interpretations and reference systems, facilitating an understanding of networks' multidimensional aspect. A reflexive thematic analysis was conducted with a subset of the data from the qualitative prompts. Three main themes were

Adolescents' Knowledge and Attitudes Towards NCDs: the Impact of a Novel Preventive School-Based Approach.

The relevance of addressing the burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) through school-based approaches targeting early-life risk factors is widely acknowledged, yet evidence on their large-scale implementation and effectiveness remains limited. Students aged 14-15 (n = 176) were surveyed for their knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding NCDs. The questionnaire dealt with the cognitive, affective, and social influences on personal-level decisions. A two-arm quasi-experimental design with baseline and postmeasurement was employed; cases were exposed to a novel school-based approach develop

Insecticide Resistance Management for Mosquito Control: Mechanisms, Evidence, and Future Challenges.

Insecticide resistance threatens the durability of mosquito control. Extending the effective life span of available insecticides is therefore a key challenge. Resistance management strategies (RMS) have been proposed and incorporated into policy guidance, yet their relative effectiveness remains poorly resolved. This review synthesizes the theoretical and empirical evidence for major RMS: mixtures, rotations, mosaics, high-dose/refuge, dose moderation, and release of susceptible males. Among these RMS, mixtures currently have the strongest support, with models consistently predicting delayed r

Barriers to Palliative Care for Terminally Ill Children in a Developing Country Cancer Hospital: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Pediatric palliative care (PPC) aims to improve the quality of life for children with life-limiting illnesses and support their families by addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Globally, significant barriers to PPC delivery include limited integration into health systems, inadequate provider training, restricted access to pain medications, and communication challenges. These issues are particularly pronounced in low- and middle-income countries, where cultural, infrastructural, and resource constraints further complicate care. Despite growing recogniti
