Reconstructive subperiosteal midface lift: A three nonvisible incision approach.

This article describes our surgical technique for subperiosteal midface elevation in patients with paralytic lower eyelid malposition or cicatricial inferior eyelid retraction. Nineteen patients with paralytic lower eyelid malposition and 15 patients with cicatricial inferior eyelid retraction underwent a subperiosteal midface lift (n = 34). The procedure was performed under local anesthesia through three nonvisible incisions. A transconjunctival incision allows preseptal dissection to the orbital rim, followed by a subperiosteal dissection of the midface. An oral incision is useful to achieve

New lift: the art of facial rejuvenation with minimal incisions rhytidectomy.

OBJECTIVE: The new lift is a procedure for facial rejuvenation with minimal incision, giving the patient a significant improvement of mid face and neck, with limited dissection and minimal scars. A further "One-stitch" of anchorage to the deep temporal fascia is required to hold tissues. By a minimal surgical access, we get a suitable cheek lift with the improvement of nose-labial folds, mandibular edge and neck contour. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between February 2009 and June 2012, 32 patients underwent facial rejuvenation surgery called new lift at a mean age of 46 years (range 35-55 years). Se

Reduction Malarplasty With Face-Lift for Older Asians With Prominent Zygoma.

BACKGROUND: In Asian culture, overly prominent zygomas are undesirable because they give a masculine and severe appearance. Thus, reduction malarplasty is now becoming one of the most popular procedures among Asian women. However, older patients present sagging facial soft tissue and have high incidence of cheek descent after surgery. To overcome these issues and achieve better cosmetic surgical outcomes, we performed a reduction malarplasty combined with a face-lift to achieve an oval and youthful midface. METHODS: It was a retrospective observational study of 22 older Asian women who compla

A Modified, Direct Neck Lift Technique: The Cervical Wave-Plasty.

BACKGROUND: Major problems with cervicoplasty by direct skin excision include the subjective nature of skin markings preoperatively and the confusing array of procedures offered. This technique incorporates curved incisions, resulting in a wave-like scar, which is why the procedure is called a "wave-plasty". METHODS: This prospective study includes 37 patients who underwent wave-plasty procedures from 2004 to 2015. Skin pinching technique was used to mark the anterior neck preoperatively in a reproducible fashion. Intra-operatively, redundant skin was excised, along with excess fat when neces

Presto lift-a facelift that preserves the retaining ligaments and SMAS tethering.

BACKGROUND: Producing youthful facial appearance by face-lifting often comes along with an undesired loss of patient's individual phenotype. This may result from insufficient preservation of retaining ligaments, the "guardians of facial identify," and from severance of the intersegmental connections of the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS), which tether, structure, and compartmentalize facial soft tissue into defined, relevant anatomical zones. METHODS: The technique reported here preserves most retaining ligaments. They serve to fix the facial soft tissue mass in loco. With the p…

Cleft lift procedure for pilonidal disease: technique and perioperative management.

Pilonidal disease is a common condition affecting young patients. It is often disruptive to their lifestyle due to recurrent abscesses or chronic wound drainage. The most common surgical treatment, "cystectomy," removes useful tissue unnecessarily and does not address the etiology of the condition. Herein, we describe the etiology of pilonidal disease and our technique for definitive management of pilonidal disease using the cleft lift procedure. In this paper, we present our method of performing the cleft lift procedure for pilonidal disease including perioperative management and surgical tec

Lichen planopilaris following hair transplantation and face-lift surgery.

Cosmetic surgical procedures, including hair transplantation and face-lift surgery, are becoming increasingly popular. However, there is very little information regarding the associated development of dermatological conditions following these procedures. Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is an uncommon inflammatory hair disorder of unknown aetiology that results in permanent alopecia and replacement of hair follicles with scar-like fibrous tissue. Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), a variant of LPP, involves the frontal hairline and shares similar histological findings with those of LPP. We report 10 p

Laser-assisted neck-lift: high-tech contouring and tightening.

Less invasive procedures for facial rejuvenation are becoming more and more popular as prospective patients seek out treatment options that offer the best possible results with the least amount of downtime. As the demand for "quick recovery" procedures increases and patients spend more time researching options, more informed choices are being made, and many times patients opt for technologically advanced procedures. Less invasive procedures can be so described because they utilize small incisions, less anesthesia, or advanced technology to reduce morbidity. We describe a minimally invasive "la

Influence of heel lifts during standing in children with motor disorders.

Heel wedges may influence standing posture but how and to what extent are unknown. Thirty-two children with motor disorders - 16 with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) and 16 with cerebral palsy (CP) - and 19 control children underwent a three-dimensional motion analysis. Unassisted standing during 20s with shoes only and with heel lifts of 10, 20 and 30mm heights was recorded in a randomized order. The more weight-bearing limb or the right limb was chosen for analysis. In both the AMC and CP groups, significant changes were seen between various heel lifts in ankle, knee and pelvis, and

The anatomy of the palpebral branch of the infraorbital artery relating to midface lift.

The aim of this study was to elucidate a branch of the infraorbital artery (IOA) crossing the arcus marginalis into the orbit that might be vulnerable during a procedure of midface lift or fat sliding or a transposition in lower blepharoplasty.Eleven orbits of 6 Korean cadavers were dissected after injecting red latex into the external carotid artery. The IOA and nerve were identified. A branch of the IOA running upward was traced. In 28 cases of blow-out fracture, a branch of the IOA crossing the arcus marginalis into the orbit was identified, and the location was measured from each medial an

[Sinus floor bone augmentation: implementation of the concept of sinus-lift].

Sinus floor elevation is a technique allowing implant placement in the posterior edentulous maxilla when residual bone height is limited. This technique has evolved a lot since it has been first introduced in the eighties. Nowadays, this approach is considered as predictable, simple and practicable under local anaesthesia. The present article aims at understanding clearly the biological phenomenon of "sinus-lift". Moreover, the surgical protocol used at the University of Liège is considered didactically and reasoned according to the scientific literature.

The 'Nefertiti lift': a new technique for specific re-contouring of the jawline.

Botulinum toxin type A (BoNTA) is now used extensively for rejuvenation of the forehead, glabellar and periocular regions and there is increasing focus on treatment of the lower face. Although there is well-documented evidence for the efficacy of botulinum toxin in the correction of platysmal bands, little work has been done to explore its potential role in rejuvenation of the jawline. To date, effects in this area have been reported as a consequence of platysmal banding treatment and are inconsistent. Hesitancy to explore treatment may be due to evidence of a greater, more durable response to

Chronic psoas syndrome caused by the inappropriate use of a heel lift.

Heel lifts are commonly recommended for patients to manage the pain and discomfort of leg length discrepancies. However, used inappropriately, orthotics can create additional pain instead of alleviating it. In the case described, a 79-year-old male physician used a recommended heel lift for a perceived leg length discrepancy after right hip arthroplasty. Six months postsurgery, chronic, intractable pain developed in his hip and groin. He underwent a battery of tests to locate the pain, but its source remained elusive. Osteopathic evaluation and radiographic examination revealed an absence of l

Enhancing upper lid aesthetics with the lateral subcutaneous brow lift.

BACKGROUND: Surgical techniques for improving the upper eyelid aesthetic unit have recently focused on the management of eyebrow position. In our practice, we noticed that in some patients the lateral brow was low preoperatively, whereas in others it was well positioned but overly mobile. OBJECTIVE: We describe our experience using the lateral subcutaneous brow lift (LSBL) to elevate and stabilize the lateral brow. METHODS: An incision was marked at the junction of the hair-bearing scalp and forehead, beginning on a line extending superiorly from the mid-pupillary line, and carried down to t

The endotine: a new biodegradable fixation device for endoscopic forehead lifts.

BACKGROUND: No single technique for fixation of the scalp after endoscopic forehead lift is universally accepted, and complications such as alopecia and regression of elevation have been reported with all techniques. OBJECTIVE: This report describes the preliminary results of a study of the Endotine 3.5 forehead device (Coapt Systems, Inc, Palo Alto, CA), a new biodegradable fixation device. METHODS: The Endotine 3.5 device consists of a post on the deep side for anchoring it in the skull and five tines on the superior side for engaging the deep scalp tissues. It was tested in 9 patients, wi

The safe face lift with bony anatomic landmarks to elevate the SMAS.

The risk for facial nerve injury has been reported to be increased with the inclusion of superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) elevation as compared with a skin-only face lift. The facial nerve courses through the parotid gland. The SMAS is elevated superficial to the parotid gland. However, in elevating the SMAS anterior to the parotid gland, the facial nerve is at risk of injury where its branches emerge from the anterior edge of the parotid gland. The purpose of this study was to identify bony anatomic landmarks to predict the location of the anterior edge of the parotid gland to avo

Anthropometric measurements of the endoscopic eyebrow lift in the treatment of facial paralysis.

Endoscopic eyebrow lift was performed on 51 patients presenting with eyebrow ptosis due to facial paralysis. The resulting anthropometric measurements of eyebrow position were analyzed statistically to evaluate the effectiveness of this method. When preoperative eyebrow differences between the paralyzed and nonparalyzed sides were measured, the average difference at midpoint was 4.4 mm, and at the highest point, 4.6 mm. When the same points were measured postoperatively, the average difference at midpoint was 2.4 mm, and at the highest point, 2.3 mm. The difference in eyebrow height between th
