The synthesis, structure, and reactivity of stable homoleptic heterometallic LnL4K2 complexes of divalent lanthanide ions with electron-rich tris(tert-butoxy)siloxide ligands are reported. Tridentate carborane [S, S, O] ligands 2a-2b [(HOC6H2R2-4,6)(CH2)SC(B10H10)C(Ph)2P=S, R = (t)Bu (2a), R = Me (2b)] were synthesized and characterized. A novel and challenging approach for the construction of multivalent iminosugar architectures directly on calixarene scaffolds is presented, which exploits multiple cycloaddition reactions of a carbohydrate-derived nitrone on diversely functionalized calix[4]arenes. Regardless of the 4-fold reiteration on a single calixarene, the reactions take place with high regio- and stereoselectivity, demonstrating this method as an appealing one for the synthesis of calixarene-based neoglycoconjugates.

Rhodamine-based fluorescent chemosensors 1 and 2 exhibit selective fluorescence enhancement to Fe3+ and Hg2+ over other metal ions at 580 nm in CH(3)CN/H(2)O (3/1, v/v) solution. Bis(rhodamine) chemosensor 1, under optimized conditions (CH(3)CN/HEPES buffer (0.02 M, pH = 7.0) (95/5, v/v)), shows a high selectivity and sensitivity to Hg2+, with a linear working range of 0-50 μM, a wide pH span of 4-10, and a detection limit of 0.4 μM Hg2+.

In this contribution a facile, one-step synthesis of tridentate thiol-functionalized PEO ligands and their ability to stabilize CdSe/CdS/ZnS core-shell-shell nanoparticles in aqueous media are described. Gold nanoparticles coated with multiple copies of an amphiphilic sulfate-ended ligand are able to bind the HIV envelope glycoprotein gp120 as measured by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and inhibit in vitro the HIV infection of T-cells at nanomolar concentrations. The present study describes the synthesis of the iron(III) salt of a commercially available immobilized ligand, IMLIG, Octolig-21 and its use to remove arsenic from aqueous solutions. The synthesis was accomplished by treating an aqueous suspension of Octolig-21 with an equal weight of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate under nitrogen.
