Lips are structures that play an essential role in aesthetics and in different functions such as nutrition and speech. The complex anatomy of the lips - with three different layers composed of skin, mucosa, and muscles - makes surgical management of this area a therapeutic challenge. The use of flaps for the reconstruction of large defects with low risk of necrosis is possible given the abundant blood supply of the lips. Reconstruction of a lower lip deformity associated with leakage of saliva (drooling) and food spillage is challenging. To achieve complete closure of the mouth, the lips must have a sufficient and uniform thickness. Here we report a patient with lower lip deformity secondary to resection of a malignant tumor, in whom reconstruction was done with a hard palate mucoperiosteal graft. Perfect mouth closure without any leakage of saliva and a natural contour of the reconstructed lower lip were obtained, thus providing good aesthetic and functional results. We present the clinical findings and treatment of haemangiomas and arteriovenous malformations only, although many other vascular lesions affect the lip. We used simple clinical findings for our diagnosis and treated our patients by applying the Tabaksbeutelnaht (tobacco-pouch suture) technique to encircle the tumour and strangle it. Removal of hemangiomas presents difficult management problems. This article describes the treatment of hemangiomas of the lip by cryosurgery and, in particular, evaluates the effectiveness of freezing in nitrous oxide cryosurgery on these lesions. Four women and two men, ages 40 to 76 years and manifesting angiomatous lesions on the vermillion of the lower or upper lips, were treated. A case of necrotizing sialometaplasia of the lip in an 68-year-old pipe smoker is described. Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a self-healing non-neoplastic disease probably of ischaemic nature. A 57-year-old Southeast Asian woman with a remote history of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the right labium superius oris (upper lip) presented to the hospital with vague epigastric pain. On workup, she was found to have multiple pleural nodules. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of metastatic ACC. After 8 months of active surveillance, evidence of disease progression was found and the patient was started on pembrolizumab. Follow-up after starting pembrolizumab showed stable disease with no significant side effects.

Chondroid syringoma is a benign, rare, asymptomatic, slow-growing mixed tumor. Tumors larger than 3cm are considered giant and may be malignant. We present a 65-year-old man with a chronic, indolent, subcutaneous tumor with upper lip deformity. An excisional biopsy was performed under local anesthesia. Based on histopathological analysis, the resected lesion was identified as a chondroid syringoma of the apocrine type. There was no recurrence during the one-year follow-up after surgery. The occurrence of a large chondroid syringoma in the upper lip is rare.

Amelanotic malignant melanoma (AMM) is characterized by little or no visible pigment. The diagnosis of AMM is a challenge for clinicians because it is a rare entity that presents with various clinical features. Maffucci's syndrome in a 17-year-old girl is reported. Since the entity was first described in 1881 by Maffucci, 105 additional cases have been recorded. Several series have reported a small but significant percentage of cases (up to 18%) with malignant change. Our case, although not particularly unique in comparison with other cases of this syndrome, is presented because of the infrequent occurrence of this syndrome.
