BACKGROUND: Bisphosphonates are a class of agents used to treat various systemic conditions. Despite the benefits of bisphosphonates, osteonecrosis of the jaws is an important complication in a subset of patients who receive this drug treatment.

Dentigerous cysts are the most common bony lesions of the jaws in children. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the volumetric changes in bone grafts to the severely atrophic edentulous maxilla over 6 months.
METHODS: Ten edentulous patients received autogenous bone as buccal onlay grafts to the maxilla and bilaterally particulate bone grafts to the maxillary sinus. Two mm contiguous axial CT scans were obtained 1 to 2 weeks and 6 to 7 months postoperatively. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the interrelation in growth and morphogenesis between the maxilla and the mandible. Asymmetrical growth was induced in the maxilla of 10-day-old LE/T rats by means of unilateral artificial synostosis of the frontonasal and frontopremaxillary sutures. Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare benign lesion of the head and neck. A case of an ABC in a 12-year-old female is presented, the twentieth reported such case in the maxilla. Literature review shows ABC are common in the long bones; only 2% are in the head and neck. Of the 77 lesions in the head and neck found in the literature, 31 (40%) are in the mandible, 20 (26%) are in the maxilla (including this case) and the remainder mainly in the skull. Current recommended treatment is curettage with enucleation first if technically possible.

Craniofacial asymmetry was analyzed in 31 children with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) and compared to a group of 24 children with incomplete clefts of the lip (CL). The case presented here represents an aggressive form of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. Because of lack of evidence to substantiate precocious puberty and abnormal pigmentation, Albright syndrome cannot be established.
