The medical software quality deployment method.

UNLABELLED: The objective of this study was to develop a Quality Function Deployment (QFD) model for design of information systems in health-care environments. Consecutive blocked-subject case studies were conducted, based on action research methods. RESULTS: Starting with a QFD model for software development, a model for information system design, the Medical Software Quality Deployment (MSQD) model, was developed. The MSQD model was divided into the pre-study phase, in which the customer categories and their power to influence the design are determined; the data collection phase, in which t

Corporatization of Academic Medical Centers and Its Impact on the "Esprit-De-Corps" of Surgical Teams.

BACKGROUND: Accelerating corporatization of US healthcare has reshaped academic medical center governance, with for-profit investor-owned organizations comprising 23.7% of market share in 2,023 and 56.1% of hospitals owned by corporations with 3 or more hospitals. Although intended to enhance financial sustainability, centralized, productivity-driven management may conflict with the professional culture underpinning high-performing surgical teams. STUDY DESIGN: Narrative perspective synthesizing literature in health policy, organizational psychology, and surgical culture to examine how corpor

Building and managing a complex drug discovery consortium: insights from the tuberculosis drug accelerator.

Developing tuberculosis drug regimens requires coordinated discovery of multiple, mechanistically distinct agents, which challenge traditional single-asset models. The Tuberculosis Drug Accelerator (TBDA) was established as a multi-organizational consortium to enable collaborative discovery across academia, industry and research institutions. Over more than a decade, the TBDA has demonstrated how such collaborations can align incentives, manage uncertainty and maintain portfolio discipline. This manuscript examines the operational and governance mechanisms that enable sustained collaboration.

Analysis of work system components in interprofessional communication to determine shock etiology.

In critical care settings, lack of agreement among clinicians on shock etiology is associated with higher mortality. Effective interprofessional communication may facilitate agreement on etiology and reduce mortality. This study sought to understand the interaction of work system components (people, environments, tools, tasks) in interprofessional communication to determine shock etiology. We interviewed 28 physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and pharmacists at three United States hospitals using a Critical Incident Technique. Analysis was guided by the Systems Engineering Initiat

Structural equation modelling of lower back pain due to whole-body vibration exposure in the construction industry.

Whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure is a health hazard among workers, causing lower back pain (LBP) in the construction industry. This study examines key factors affecting LBP due to WBV exposure using exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The results confirm five key factors (equipment, job related, organizational, personal, social context) with their 17 associated items. The organizational factor is found the most important, as it influences the other four factors. The results also show that appropriate seat type, specific training programme, job rotation, workers' s

Workforce agility: a systematic literature review and research agenda.

INTRODUCTION: The definition and operationalization of workforce agility, initially associated with multitasking abilities, have evolved to encompass aspects of adaptability, proactivity, and resilience, which are now widely accepted. However, some authors have expanded this concept by adding elements such as intelligence, collaboration, and social support, leading to confusion and disagreement on how to consistently measure workforce agility. Furthermore, the literature emphasizes the importance of workforce agility in achieving business goals and adopting innovative management models, yet it

Availability of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder in Opioid Treatment Programs.

IMPORTANCE: As the primary facilities authorized to dispense methadone, opioid treatment programs (OTPs) are a critical access point for medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). However, research is limited on the extent to which OTPs offer a broad range of MOUD and on the characteristics of programs that provide more comprehensive medication offerings. OBJECTIVE: To assess the percentage of US OTPs offering all 3 forms of MOUD (methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone) and compare organizational and county characteristics of OTPs with different MOUD service offerings. HIV Education and Welfare Services in Primary Care: An Empirical Model of Integration in Brazil's Unified Health System.

Integration of health education and welfare services in primary care systems is a key strategy to solve the multiple determinants of chronic diseases, such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS). However, there is a scarcity of conceptual models from which to build integration strategies. We provide a model based on cross-sectional data from 168 Community Health Agents, 62 nurses, and 32 physicians in two municipalities in Brazil's Unified Health System (UHS). The outcome, service integration, comprised HIV education, community activities (

Decarbonizing surgical care: a qualitative systematic review guided by the Congruence Model.

BACKGROUND: The healthcare sector must navigate the challenge of caring for individuals affected by climate change while being a significant emitter of carbon emissions. This study focuses on direct sources of carbon emissions from hospital surgical care, a major contributor to the sector's overall carbon footprint. The goal is to identify the main sources of direct carbon emissions in surgical care and to analyze these sources according to the Congruence Model. We employ the Congruence Model for a systemic analysis of emission sources within the organizational context. The change-oriented mod

[Implementing an Organised Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme in Germany: Opportunities and Challenges].

BACKGROUND: Each year in Germany, about 65,000 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) and more than 25,000 people die of the disease. The majority of these cases could be avoided by a more effective screening programme. Recently, a law came into force that offers a great opportunity in this regard. It calls for introducing an organised CRC screening programme in Germany, which includes an invitation system as well as further measures for quality assurance and programme evaluation. To realise this opportunity, challenges of implementation need to be considered. The aim of this review

Continuous assurance for AI-driven clinical decision support systems.

Healthcare systems are rapidly embedding adaptive and generative AI into core clinical processes. The integration of Artificial Intelligence into Clinical Decision Support Systems (AI-CDSS) highlights a fundamental transformation within healthcare delivery. This transformation enables advanced predictive analytics, multimodal data integration, and real-time augmentation of clinical decisions. However, AI introduces systemic, ethical, operational, and governance risks that challenge traditional healthcare audit and assurance frameworks. In fact, assurance methodologies designed for static softw

Conditions for distributed leadership practices among managers in elder- and disability care organizations: A structural equation modeling approach.

BACKGROUND: Against the backdrop of worldwide increases in life expectancy, there is a growing concern about the future of health and social care services in many countries, including Sweden. This is not least due to expected cutbacks in tax revenues and increasing staff shortages in the welfare sector. Challenges such as these have spurred leadership reforms aimed at mobilizing employee engagement and promoting job attractiveness. For instance, distributed leadership, whereby leader responsibilities are distributed and shared among team members, has gained momentum in recent decades. Neverthe

Perceived fairness of algorithmic decision-making and university teachers' job burnout: a moderated chain-mediation model.

As big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies become embedded in the governance of higher education, algorithmic decision-making has improved managerial efficiency but has also led teachers to question the fairness of evaluation and to face difficulties in psychological adaptation, making job burnout an increasingly salient concern. How perceived fairness of algorithmic decision-making (FAD) relates to university teachers' job burnout, and through what psychological mechanism, remains unclear. Drawing on the transactional theory of stress and organizational support theory, we built

Do I feel elevated? Unraveling the emotional and value-based mechanisms behind humble leadership.

INTRODUCTION: Humble leadership is increasingly recognized as a catalyst for organizational adaptability. Although prior research has examined several cognitive, relational, and affective mechanisms underlying humble leadership, less is known about whether humble leadership evokes specific self-transcendent moral emotions, such as elevation, that motivate followers to engage in risky but prosocial voice behavior. Departing from traditional exchange-based leadership perspectives, this study draws on Affective Events Theory to conceptualize humble leadership as a "moral event" that elicits eleva
