A novel splice site CUL3 variant in a patient with neurodevelopmental delay.

BACKGROUND: CUL3-related neurodevelopmental disorder is a recently described rare genetic condition characterized by global developmental delay and intellectual disability. Five affected individuals have been reported worldwide. The molecular and phenotypic spectrum of the disorder has yet to be fully elucidated. Splice variants in CUL3 are a well-described cause of pseudohypoaldosteronism type IIE; however, splice variants have not been associated with the neurodevelopmental disorder. We report the first individual with a neurodevelopmental disorder attributed to a CUL3 splice site variant.

Brain abnormalities, neurodegeneration, and dysosteosclerosis (BANDDOS): new cases, systematic literature review, and associations with CSF1R-ALSP.

CSF1R mutations cause autosomal-dominant CSF1R-related leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia (CSF1R-ALSP) and autosomal-recessive brain abnormalities, neurodegeneration, and dysosteosclerosis (BANDDOS). The former is increasingly recognized, and disease-modifying therapy was introduced; however, literature is scarce on the latter. This review analyzes BANDDOS and discusses similarities and differences with CSF1R-ALSP.We systematically retrieved and analyzed the clinical, genetic, radiological, and pathological data on the previously reported and our cases with BANDDOS. [Visualization of Cerebrospinal Micro-Angioarchitecture].

Researchers have been trying to visualize fine angioarchitecture in cerebrospinal vascular lesions and the positional relationship between vascular lesions and surrounding structures. The aim of this article was to introduce the usefulness of imaging in visualizing the microvascular anatomy in cerebrospinal vascular lesions, such as aneurysm, arterial dissection, arteriovenous malformation, dural arteriovenous fistula(AVF), spinal dural and epidural AVF, and craniocervical junction AVF. For the imaging modality, we used high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging, three-dimensional rotational a

[Intracranial vascular malformations].

Intracranial vascular malformations range from incidental asymptomatic vascular alterations up to life-threatening vascular disorders. Arteriovenous malformations and dural arteriovenous fistulas are cerebral vascular malformations with arteriovenous shunting of blood. In the majority of cases they are accompanied by an elevated risk of intracerebral hemorrhage and can cause severe symptoms. They can be treated conservatively or interventionally via microneurosurgery, endovascular embolization and radiation therapy. Cavernous malformations, developmental venous anomalies (DVA) and capillary te

Vascular Anomalies of Posterior Fossa and Their Implications.

Posterior fossa houses very vital and sensitive structures namely midbrain, pons, medulla, and cerebellum. These structures are irrigated by vertebral, posterior inferior cerebellar, anterior inferior cerebellar, and superior cerebellar arteries. Parts of brain located in posterior fossa control important parts of body so any variation pertaining to stenosis, atresia, hypoplasia, fenestration, agenesis, and duplication in the arteries supplying these parts alter the irrigation pattern culminating into various morbid and mortal neurologic disorders. Therefore, a sound understanding and thorough

Dural arteriovenous fistula at the foramen magnum: Report of a case and clinical-anatomical review.

Arterial supply and venous drainage at the foramen magnum is variable. Two main forms of clinical presentation, intracranial and spinal, can be differentiated when a dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) is found at this level. We describe a case of a 68-year-old patient with a progressive paraparesis, diagnosed of dural arteriovenous fistula located at the posterior lip of foramen magnum. We review, in this setting, the vascular radiological anatomy of those fistulas and its important correlation with neurologic clinical symptoms.

Therapeutic progress in pediatric intracranial dural arteriovenous shunts: A review.

Pediatric dural arteriovenous shunts (dAVSs) are a rare form of vascular disease: Fewer than 100 cases are reported in PubMed and the understanding of pediatric dAVS is limited. For this study, we searched in PubMed, reviewed and summarized the literature related to pediatric dAVSs. Our review revealed that pediatric dAVSs have an unfavorable natural history: If left untreated, the majority of pediatric dAVSs deteriorate. In a widely accepted classification scheme developed by Lasjaunias et al., pediatric dAVSs are divided into three types: Dural sinus malformation (DMS) with dAVS, infantile d

Acute paraplegia following embolization of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula.

Embolization therapy has been used as the initial treatment for spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) only for certain patients or in certain medical institutions due to its minimal invasiveness, but the recurrence of embolization remains a clinical challenge. The recurrent patient usually exhibits a gradual onset of symptoms and progressive deterioration of neurological function. Developing paraplegia several hours after embolization is commonly seen in patients with venous thrombosis-related complications, for which anticoagulation therapy is often administered. This article reports on

Simultaneous unilateral moyamoya disease and ipsilateral dural arteriovenous fistula: case report.

OBJECTIVE: Previous reports have described an association between moyamoya disease and arteriovenous malformations, but this unusual case is the first report of a unilateral moyamoya pattern simultaneously associated with an ipsilateral dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF). CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old man presented with headache, tinnitus, and an intraventricular hemorrhage, as seen on computed tomographic scans. Cerebral angiography showed a right moyamoya pattern and an ipsilateral dAVF fed by branches of the external carotid artery and draining into the transverse sinus. INTERVENTI

Basilar impression and platybasia in osteogenesis imperfecta tarda.

Osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare, genetically transmitted disorder of bone, is known to be associated with the development of basilar impression and platybasia. These deformities of the base of the skull may cause neurosurgical abnormalities secondary to compression of the brainstem and hydrocephalus. The case is presented of a young boy with a family history of osteogenesis imperfecta tarda who suffered respiratory arrest during hospitalization. Cranial nerves and pyramidal tract signs were demonstrated. Roentgenograms showed severe basilar impression and hydrocephalus. Decompression of the br
