In an attempt to explain disability in dorsally angulated malunited distal radius fractures, an experiment was designed to evaluate load patterns about the wrist with varying degrees of dorsal angulation of the distal radius. Osteotomies were made in the distal radius of fresh cadaver arms after a modified external fixator was applied to the radius and load cells applied to the proximal radius and ulna. Pressure-sensitive film was inserted into the radioulnar carpal joint. After a predetermined load was applied to the wrist it was found that the load through the ulna increased from 21% to 67%

I report 12 cases of dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint. Eight cases were treated by closed reduction and redislocation occurred in five. The result was good in five out of these eight cases. Two cases with a redislocation and poor result were operated on: in one the sternoclavicular joint was successfully reconstructed with a palmaris longus tendon, and in the other the result was poor after medial resection of the clavicle. During a 4-year period, 15,149 newborns were examined for hip abnormalities. Ninety-two infants (0.61%) were found to have subluxatable (lax, but not dislocatable) hips. The profile of this group was similar to patients with dislocated hips, with an increased frequency of females, breech presentations, left-sided involvement, and associated postural deformities. We have used the pelvic Hoffmann technique successfully on two patients requiring flap coverage and have had no difficulty with its management nor complications with the pelvic pin fixation. We feel that this type of fixation provides significant advantages for the treatment of hand and forearm injuries requiring flap coverage for avulsing injuries to the hand and wrist.

We modified the Onen method for pectus carinatum repair and used a vertical incision instead of a transverse incision. The most important advantage gained by the vertical incision is that we can switch to the Ravitch method without needing an additional incision, by elongating the existing incision in patients in whom a pectus bar cannot be placed. We successfully performed the modified Onen technique in a 16-year-old boy with a mixed-type pectus carinatum deformity.

For safe pedicle screw insertion, knowing pedicle anatomy is essential. Pedicle morphometry in achondroplasia has not been quantitatively described. Therefore, we analyzed 302 thoracic and lumbar pedicles in 11 patients using computed tomography. Transverse endosteal diameter, screw path length, transverse angle, sagittal diameter, and sagittal angle were calculated. We analyzed for safe screw length, size, and trajectory. In the presence of a vertebral injury or disease, manifest osteoporosis affects preoperative planning. Thus, if surgery is indicated, bone density should be determined in cases of suspected or diagnosed osteoporosis. Instrumentation of the spine is frequently not required in surgical interventions. However, if indicated, instrumentation should be fixed multifocally and the deformity should be corrected with special care. It is absolutely necessary to avoid ending instrumentation within a kyphosis.

Surgical repair has become a mainstay in the treatment of ruptures of the distal biceps tendon and multiple surgical techniques have been described advocating anatomic or near-anatomic repair. Fixation with an EndoButton technique has been shown to have superior fixation strength and durable clinical outcomes.
