From examination of 69 pelvic CT scans from 25 patients, the role of CT after hemipelvectomy is examined. A brief description of the various … he usefulness of CT in CT-guided biopsy and CT-guided thermocouple placement is provided. CT of the pelvis is advocated as the method of choice to follow these patients, because of its ability to detect postoperative recurrence and complications.

The value of computer tomography in the investigation of carcinomas of the renal pelvis was analysed in 22 patients. In 88% of cases it was possible to differentiate tumours confined to stages I and II from tumours in the advanced stages III and IV. Computer tomographic signs of stages III and IV were demonstration of infiltration into the surrounding tissues and into the renal parenchyma as well as the presence of regional lymph node metastases. Computer tomography should follow urography wherever there is a suspicion of a pelvic carcinoma in order to define the tumour more precisely.

Hemophilic pseudotumors are a rare complication of chronic bleeding disorders. Invasive diagnostic procedures such as angiography, needle biopsy, or laparotomy carry a high risk in this group. Computerized tomography (CT) and ultrasound are safe alternative methods of evaluation. We report the computerized tomography and ultrasound characteristics of one such pelvic lesions.

The work analyzes case histories of 19 patients with pelvis abscesses after appendectomy. The overwhelming majority of them had destructive forms of appendicitis. The authors make a conclusion that the main cause of these complications is defects of operation (insufficient drainage of the abdominal cavity), groundless operation under local anesthesia, refusal of drainage of the abdominal cavity despite indications for it or errors in the drainage technique. The main method of the treatment of pelvic abscesses is operation.

Comparisons were made between 15 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis and 27 cases of transitional cell carcinoma. The frequencies of calculosis and infection of the urinary tract were higher in the squamous cell group. These patients were somewhat older than the patients with transitional cell carcinoma and had a much poorer prognosis. Only five of them survived for a year and only one was still alive after five years. Squamous cell carcinoma generally occurred as a single tumour. We describe a patient with amyloidosis of renal pelvis and 2 patients with urinary bladder amyloidosis. Clinical presentation in all of the cases mimicked cancer of the respective sites. Clinical diagnosis of amyloidosis is not possible, making biopsy mandatory. Immunology of amyloid formation and treatment of amyloidosis are discussed.

In a female patient who presented with the complaint of dysuria, angiography was required to distinguish a vascular impression on the renal pelvis from a possible tumor or calculus. Neither intravenous urography nor retrograde pyelogram clarified the smooth filling defect sufficiently to rule out the possibility of a urothelial tumor.

A 63-year-old male experienced pain in the epigastric region and a septic fiver. X-ray examinations showed a tumor-like process in the lower part of the left kidney with some concrements. Upon operation a nodular inflammatory tumor was found, occupying more than two-thirds of the left kidney. Histologic examination revealed a typical cholesteatoma of the renal pelvis and calyces with some concrements among the abundant keratin material.

The case of a young female patient is discussed. The authors removed out of the renal hollow system of this patient a needle. The foreign body passed perorally into the renal pelvis after perforation of the duodenum. There the thicker end of the needle was encrusted; a pyelonephrosis, then a septic condition developed. After removal of the needle the kidney operated on showed a good function.
