We report the synthesis, characterization, anti-cancer activity and mechanism of action of a novel water-soluble Cu(II) complex with salicylidene carbohydrazide as the ligand and o-phenanthroline as the co-ligand. The synthesized complex (1) was characterized by FT-IR, EPR, and electronic spectroscopy, as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction. In this work, a simple and selective fluorescence sensor approach called 'turn-on-off' for the determination of thiamine (TM) has been developed. As known, the o-phenanthroline (o-phen) has inner fluorescence, though when reacted with zinc ions to form the o-phen-Zn2+ complex the fluorescence intensity was enhanced effectively, while upon addition of TM into the o-phen-Zn2+ complex solution, the intensity of the system was gently quenched, which was termed the 'turn-on-off' probe. The mechanism of iron uptake in the chrysophyte microalga Dinobryon was studied. Previous studies have shown that iron is the dominant limiting elements for growth of Dinobryon in the Eshkol reservoir in northern Israel, which control its burst of bloom. Herein, we describe a convenient and general method for the oxidation of olefins to ketones using either tris(dibenzoylmethanato)iron(III) [Fe(dbm)3 ] or a combination of iron(II) chloride and neocuproine (2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) as catalysts and phenylsilane (PhSiH3 ) as additive. In the title compound, [Cd(2)Cr(2)O(8)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)]·2H(2)O, which was obtained by hydro-thermal reaction of CdCO(3) and phenanthroline with K(2)CrO(4) at 393 K, two distorted Cd(N(4)O(2)) octa-hedra are linked through μ(2)-bridging chromate anions, forming a centrosymmetric tetra-nuclear eight-membered ring complex. The water mol-ecules link the chromate O atoms via inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. An estrus stage-specific proteinase of an estimated molecular weight of 600 kDa was detected in uterine luminal fluid of the rat. We present evidence that the anthrax toxin lethal factor binds multiple zinc atoms. Results from atomic adsorption spectroscopy indicate that lethal factor contains approximately three zinc atoms per toxin molecule.
