Impact of specific genetic polymorphisms on pork quality in Argentinian swine populations.

Increasing consumer demand for high-quality pork has led the industry to focus on attributes like color, marbling, and tenderness. Since genetics plays a crucial role in such traits, this study explored the relationship between specific genetic variants and key pork quality parameters. Six candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were analyzed in pigs from commercial farms in northeastern Argentina: RYR1 1843 C > T, RN (200R > Q/199I > V), CAST 638 S > A, CAST 76872G > A, SOX6A (A42812066G > A), and SOX6B (B43023574G > C) using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length poly

Contribution of FXR1 genetic polymorphisms to breast cancer susceptibility in Chinese females.

Fragile X-related protein 1 (FXR1) is an m6A-binding protein that plays a critical role in cancer development and progression. It has unclear associations between its genetic variants and breast cancer (BC) susceptibility. This study explored correlations of FXR1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with BC susceptibility. A frequency matching case-control study included 802 histologically confirmed BC cases and 802 age-matched controls (± 2 years) of Han-Chinese ethnicity. Four FXR1 SNPs were selected using bioinformatics. Associations with BC risk and reproductive factor interactions were

Recurrent inversion polymorphisms in humans associate with genetic instability and genomic disorders.

Unlike copy number variants (CNVs), inversions remain an underexplored genetic variation class. By integrating multiple genomic technologies, we discover 729 inversions in 41 human genomes. Approximately 85% of inversions <2 kbp form by twin-priming during L1 retrotransposition; 80% of the larger inversions are balanced and affect twice as many nucleotides as CNVs. Balanced inversions show an excess of common variants, and 72% are flanked by segmental duplications (SDs) or retrotransposons. Since flanking repeats promote non-allelic homologous recombination, we developed complementary approach

Genetic polymorphisms associated with polycystic ovary syndrome among Iranian women.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) involves abnormalities in ovarian, reproductive, and metabolic systems. Genetic polymorphisms associated with individual differences and variations might be related to complex disorders with unknown causes, including PCOS. Several leading genetic markers with known cellular functions have been identified among Iranian women presenting with PCOS. In particular, the existing evidence shows a significant relationship between PCOS and the following genetic polymorphisms: rs2275913 (interleukin-17A), rs9927163 (interleukin-32), Pro12Ala (peroxisome proliferator-acti

The Impact of Human Genetic Polymorphisms on Rotavirus Susceptibility, Epidemiology, and Vaccine Take.

Innate resistance to viral infections can be attributed to mutations in genes involved in the immune response, or to the receptor/ligand. A remarkable example of the latter is the recently described Mendelian trait resistance to clinically important and globally predominating genotypes of rotavirus, the most common agent of severe dehydrating gastroenteritis in children worldwide. This resistance appears to be rotavirus genotype-dependent and is mainly mediated by histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs), which function as a receptor or attachment factors on gut epithelial surfaces. The Impact of Genetic Polymorphisms in Organic Cation Transporters on Renal Drug Disposition.

A considerable number of drugs and/or their metabolites are excreted by the kidneys through glomerular filtration and active renal tubule secretion via transporter proteins. Uptake transporters in the proximal tubule are part of the solute carrier (SLC) superfamily, and include the organic cation transporters (OCTs). Several studies have shown that specific genetic polymorphisms in OCTs alter drug disposition and may lead to nephrotoxicity. Multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been reported for the OCT genes (SLC22A1, SLC22A2 and SLC22A3), which can influence the proteins' stru

Impact of apolipoprotein E genetic polymorphisms on liver disease: An essential review.

Cirrhosis is an advanced stage of liver disease, compromising liver function with systemic health implications and poor quality of life. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and alcoholic liver disease are the main causes of this pathology. However, since genetic factors may play a large role in the progression and severity of liver disease, and as apolipoprotein E (apoE) has been recognised to be mainly synthesised in the liver, apoE polymorphism studies are important to better understand the causal mechanisms in liver diseases. In this review, we summarise up-to-date studies addressing how apoE

Do genetic polymorphisms affect susceptibility to periodontal disease? A literature review.

The pathogenesis of periodontal disease is not solely based on microbial dental plaque but is the result of the multifactorial and complex interaction between infection and host response. Many studies in the literature have demonstrated the differences between individuals in terms of host immune response and the presence of genetic components in numerous pathological conditions. Therefore, periodontitis may be defined as a complex genetic disorder with a phenotype formed by the genetic structure and environmental factors in the affected individual. So, determination of the genetic susceptibili
