The Use and Outcomes of Compassion-Focused Group Interventions With Children and Adolescent Clinical Populations: A Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis.

Research has investigated the outcomes of compassion-focused therapy for adult populations, with systematic reviews and meta-analyses supporting its effectiveness. Comparatively, the literature investigating compassion-focused interventions for child and adolescent populations is less developed, with fewer empirical studies to date. Most existing literature on compassion interventions has been in a group context. A systematic review was conducted to explore the state of the evidence base for compassion-focused groups used with child and adolescent clinical populations. This narrative synthesis

Genetic ancestry of the Mulam ethnic group: admixture from ancient Yellow River, southern native, and Austronesian populations.

The Mulam people, an ethnic minority group native to southern China, primarily inhabit the Guangxi region. Systematic whole-genome studies on the Mulam population remain limited. In this study, we analyzed genome-wide genotyping data comprising over 700,000 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) derived from 107 saliva samples of Mulam individuals in Guangxi, to investigate their genetic origins and relationships with other southern East Asian populations. Based on ancestry inference and population genetic analysis, we identified three major ancestral components in the Mulam genome: ancient Ye

Emerging epidemiology of invasive group a Streptococcus in tropical Australia: a 21-year population-based data linkage study.

PURPOSE: Invasive Group A Streptococcus (iGAS) is an important cause of severe bacterial infection with increasing incidence and substantial socioeconomic disparities. This study quantified long-term trends, spatial distribution, and determinants of iGAS incidence in Northern Queensland, Australia. METHODS: A population-based retrospective cohort study was conducted using linked hospital data linkage from 2000-2020. Incidence rates were calculated per 100,000 person-years and temporal trends were assessed. Spatial clustering was evaluated using Moran's I statistic for spatial autocorrelation.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma presenting with spinal cord compression: A population-based analysis of the NHL-BFM study group.

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord compression is a rare presentation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in children. We aimed to describe the prevalence, histological subtypes, clinical presentation, therapy, and outcome of those children in a population-based cohort. The chemotherapy regimen remained comparable over time. METHODS: We retrospectively identified all children and adolescents with paresis as initial manifestations of the NHL between January 1990 and December 2020 from the NHL-BFM database. Characteristics, therapy, and outcome data were gathered from the database and patient files. RESULTS: F

Human Cytomegalovirus Oncoprotection across Diverse Populations, Tumor Histologies, and Age Groups: The Relevance for Prospective Vaccinal Therapy.

The oncogenicity of the human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is currently being widely debated. Most recently, mounting clinical evidence suggests an anti-cancer effect via CMV-induced T cell-mediated tumor destruction. However, the data were mostly obtained from single-center studies and in vitro experiments. Broad geographic coverage is required to offer a global perspective. Our study examined the correlation between country-specific CMV seroprevalence (across 73 countries) and the age-standardized incidence rate (of 34 invasive tumors). The populations studied were stratified according to decadal a

Blood Group Variations in COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma and Regular Blood Donors: A Comparative Analysis in the Serbian Population.

This research explores the association between ABO blood groups and susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection, analyzing Convalescent COVID-19 plasma (CCP) donors (n = 500) and healthy whole blood donors (BDs) (n = 9678) during the pandemic (1 May 2020 to 30 April 2021). A comparison is made with pre-pandemic BDs (n = 11,892) from 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019. Significant differences in blood group distribution are observed, with blood group A individuals being three times more likely to be CCP donors. Conversely, blood groups B, O, and AB are less associated with CCP donation. Notably, blood grou

Population structure and characterization of viridans group streptococci (VGS) isolated from the upper respiratory tract of patients in the community.

A study was undertaken to examine the population structure of viridans group streptococci (VGS) isolated the upper respiratory tract of adult and paediatric patients within the community. VGS are common commensal bacterial inhabitants of the upper respiratory tract and valuable sentinel reporters of underlying antibiotic resistance (AR). Laboratory examination of the colonising VGS species may provide a valuable ecological description of the species isolated from the upper respiratory tract and their antibiotic susceptibility, including an estimation of the AR reservoir in this population. Multiplex assay for species identification and monitoring of insecticide resistance in Anopheles punctulatus group populations of Papua New Guinea.

Anopheles punctulatus sibling species (An. punctulatus s.s., Anopheles koliensis, and Anopheles farauti species complex [eight cryptic species]) are principal vectors of malaria and filariasis in the Southwest Pacific. Given significant effort to reduce malaria and filariasis transmission through insecticide-treated net distribution in the region, effective strategies to monitor evolution of insecticide resistance among An. punctulatus sibling species is essential. Mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) gene have been associated with knock-down resistance (kdr) to pyrethroids and
