Developing High-Resolution Population and Settlement Data for Impactful Malaria Interventions in Zambia.

Foundational high-resolution geospatial data products for population, settlements, infrastructure, and boundaries may greatly enhance the efficient planning of resource allocation during health sector interventions. To ensure the relevance and sustainability of such products, government partners must be involved from the beginning in their creation, improvement, and/or management, so they can be successfully applied to public health campaigns, such as malaria control and prevention. As an example, Zambia had an ambitious strategy of reaching the entire population with malaria vector control ca

Cognitive-behavioral treatment for PTSD among people with severe mental illness: a proposed treatment model.

The lifetime prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is about 8%-14% in the general population, and trauma victimization (51%-98%) and PTSD (up to 42%) are even more prevalent among persons treated within public-sector mental health clinics. Despite this, individuals with PTSD and severe mental illness (SMI) who are treated within the public sector tend to receive inadequate mental health services. In addition, treatments for PTSD for this population remain undeveloped, with virtually no available empirical treatment outcome data to guide clinicians. We propose a model for a compreh

The use of anti-tuberculosis therapy for latent TB infection.

Tuberculosis infection is of global public health significance, with millions of incident cases each year. Many cases, particularly in low-prevalence settings, result from the reactivation of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI); potentially acquired years prior to active disease. Up to one-third of the world's population has been infected with LTBI, and so may be at risk for future active TB disease. A variety of antituberculosis medications and treatment regimens have now been evaluated in the management of LTBI, with the aim of eradicating tuberculosis bacilli and reducing the likelihood of

Health Maintenance and Unique Health Needs of the Perimenopausal and Postmenopausal Woman with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

BACKGROUND: The care of women with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) presents unique challenges for physicians given the impact of their disease on the management of issues throughout their lifespan. Preventative care plays a critical role, given the long-term sequelae associated with chronic inflammation and immunosuppressive therapy. Despite this, there remains a gap in knowledge regarding the health maintenance needs of women over 40, particularly those in perimenopausal and postmenopausal stages. This is especially important given the first cohort of patients treated with novel IBD therapie
