Outbreaks of fowl cholera continue to plague the Canadian poultry industry despite widespread immunization against the causative agent, Pasteurella multocida. Fowl cholera bacterins currently employed by domestic poultry growers contain three serological types, namely, serotypes 1, 3, and 4. In this study a total of 84 strains of P. multocida were isolated in Canada from outbreaks of fowl cholera in turkeys and chickens. The clinical, laboratory, and histopathological features of seven cases of Aspergillus fumigatus prosthetic valve endocarditis are presented. The specificity of the reaction of antipurin-6-oyl sera with thermally denatured DNA has been studied by means of hapten inhibition techniques. The relative order of effectiveness of various haptens as inhibitors of the complement fixation reaction between DNA and antipurin-6-oyl serum was found to be comparable to their relative order of effectiveness as inhibitors of the precipitin reaction between purin-6-oyl-protein conjugates and antipurin-6-oyl serum. Culex quinquefasciatus and Mansonia annulifera are abundant in the rural areas of Kuttanadu, Kerala, India. Bloodmeal identification for individuals of these species collected in this region was determined by the agar-gel precipitin test. The only workers presently exposed to bagasse dust in Japan are the employees of sugar refineries and lacquerware factories. A follow up study of six former cases of bagassosis from among the retired employees of a paper board factory, closed since 1973, showed that none of the subjects still had bagassosis. A method is presented for measuring the uptake of Aspergillus fumigatus protein by IgG antibodies from human serum. The human IgG is first isolated with an anti-IgG conjugated immunosorbent and then incubated with radio-iodinated A. fumigatus protein. Two cases are described of severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in whom cross-reacting antibodies developed to a glycopeptide antigen of Micropolyspora faeni. The antibodies were predominantly IgG, although some IgM was detected.
