Reproducible batch synthesis of radioligands for imaging by positron emission tomography (PET) in a manner that maximizes ligand yield, purity, and molar activity, and minimizes cost and exposure to radiation, remains a challenge, as new and synthetically complex radioligands become available. Commercially available automated synthesis units (ASUs) solve many of these challenges but are costly to install and cannot always accommodate diverse chemistries. Through a reiterative design process, we exploit the proliferation of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies to translate optimized rea…

GOAL: This paper aims to provide an overview with quantitative information of existing 3D-printed upper limb prostheses. We will identify the benefits and drawbacks of 3D-printed devices to enable improvement of current devices based on the demands of prostheses users.
METHODS: A review was performed using Scopus, Web of Science and websites related to 3D-printing. Quantitative information on the mechanical and kinematic specifications and 3D-printing technology used was extracted from the papers and websites.
RESULTS: The overview (58 devices) provides the general specifications, the mechan…

A key challenge for the generation of protein microarrays is the immobilization of functional capture probe proteins at the chip surfaces. Here, a new concept for a single step production of protein microarrays to unmodified plastic substrates is presented. It is based on the printing of polymer/protein mixtures and the photochemical attachment of the obtained microstructures to the plastic chip surfaces. In the photochemical process three reactions occur simultaneously: transformation of the polymer into hydrogel dots, covalent binding of the forming gel to the substrate, and covalent immobil…

Research has shown that instructional methods involving pairing pictures with print interfere with identification of written words. Preliminary evidence, however, indicates that use of modified orthography (where a line drawing is superimposed upon the printed word) may be effective for reading instruction with individuals who have mental retardation. In the present study, we used a single-subject parallel treatments design with 4 adults who had moderate to severe mental retardation. They received reading instruction under two conditions--traditional and modified orthography. Results showed th

Seven cases of fiberglass dermatitis among production operators in the electronics industry are reported. This was due to the repeated daily handling of printed circuit boards (PRCBs). The predominant complaint of the workers was itch of the lateral aspects of the fingers and finger webs. In six workers, unroofed vesicles, pinhead areas of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, and excoriation marks were noted at these sites. Skin stripping of the affected sites confirmed the presence of fiberglass spicules in all cases. The glass fibers had diameters of 11-16 microns. Patch testing of six of the

Background: Three-dimensional (3D)-printing has increasingly been applied in spine surgery for patient-specific planning, instrumentation, and implants. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the applications, technical accuracy, and outcomes of 3D-printing in spine surgery. Methods: This systematic review study was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). A comprehensive literature search was conducted for the available literature that was published before 7 November 2024, using three medical databases (PubMed,…

Rollable solar panels can increase the available photovoltaic area of CubeSats, but their flexible structure requires a flexible sensor for monitoring surface temperature during operation. In this study, an Ag-based flexible resistance temperature detector (RTD) was fabricated by electrohydrodynamic (EHD) inkjet printing for the rollable solar panel of the 3U CubeSat INHA RoSAT. The sensor was formed on a polyimide (PI) substrate and protected with a PI coating. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis were used to assess the imidization, residual solvent removal,…

This paper examines the epistemological interventions of Nawab Fakhruddin Khan Shamsul Umara (henceforth NFKSU) in the field of science and knowledge production within princely state of Hyderabad. In the early nineteenth century, NFKSU established a printing press and an institute of learning, facilitating the translation of scientific works from English and French into Urdu. These texts encompassed diverse subjects such as astronomy, geography, and biology. Rather than passively adopting Western scientific paradigms, NFKSU actively engaged with them, integrating religious perspectives into th…

Thermal interfaces for wearable thermoelectric generators must efficiently transfer heat from the skin while remaining comfortable, yet conventional materials sacrifice breathability for higher thermal conductivity. Here, we develop a breathable thermal interface using electrohydrodynamic printing of liquid metal (LM)-boron nitride (BN)-thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites. The resulting microscale lattice creates localized contact points with the skin, enabling air and moisture transport while maintaining continuous thermal pathways. The composite incorporates thermally conductive, ele…

We present an optical transmitter consisting of a SiGe BiCMOS driver amplifier heterogeneously integrated through micro-transfer printing onto a silicon photonic chip that contains a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) and optical couplers. The driver has a footprint of only 200 µm × 300 µm, and features small bond pads of 20 µm × 20 µm. It was fabricated using a modified SiGe BiCMOS on SOI process to enable the release process prior to micro-transfer printing. The post-print metallization process to contact the EIC with the PIC consists of spin coating a layer of divinylsiloxane-bis-benzocyclobutene…

Engineering physiologically relevant anisotropic tissues remains a major challenge due to limitations in replicating native structural cues across complex geometries. Here, we developed a cryogenic extrusion bioprinting platform by precisely guiding ice crystal growth to achieve centimeter-scale anisotropic constructs, even with ultrasoft, low-viscosity inks (2% weight/volume GelMA). This approach enables the fabrication of anatomically matched, patient-specific constructs with tunable anisotropy, including bone graft substitutes and osteoporotic disease models. To overcome the height constrai…

The 3D printing of functional aerogels, particularly those incorporating additives, represents a transformative approach in materials science, enabling the creation of highly customizable structures with advanced properties. This study introduces a 3D printing methodology for fabricating aerogel structures infused with titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, designed to enhance photocatalytic and environmental remediation applications. A commercially available 3D printer was adapted with a custom syringe pump system, allowing precise control over the extrusion of a shear-thinning aerogel ink. T…
