Balancing Personal and Professional Obligations Across the Transitions of Care.

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: To illustrate a critical paradox: health care professionals, and especially case managers, possess knowledge of regulatory requirements, care processes, and available resources that enable them to navigate complex systems more effectively than patients and families without this expertise. Yet, patients should not need a health care insider, professional credentials, or personal relationships within a health system to receive comprehensive, person-centered case management. PRIMARY PRACTICE SETTINGS: Across all settings. FINDINGS/CONCLUSIONS: The lived experience illustrate

Words Matter: The Language of Leadership in Nursing Professional Development.

Every day, nursing professional development specialists shape culture through hundreds of conversations. They welcome new graduate nurses, coach experienced clinicians, facilitate difficult debriefings, mentor emerging leaders, and provide reassurance during moments of uncertainty. Although these conversations may seem routine, each represents a leadership intervention. Every word has the potential to build confidence, strengthen trust, encourage learning, or unintentionally diminish it.

Validity evidence for Entrustable Professional Activities assessments in surgery.

PURPOSE: Workplace-based assessments (WBAs) of surgical trainees historically demonstrate poor alignment between faculty and learner perception of clinical encounters. Given trainee perception of receiving low autonomy is associated with higher rates of burnout, depression, and attrition, it is important to better align faculty and trainee perceptions of clinical experiences. This study aims to evaluate validity evidence data, including response process, internal structure, and consequences, of vascular surgery Entrustable Professional Activities assessments (EPAs) using national pilot impleme

On AI's role in training professionals in assisted reproductive technology.

The rapid advancement of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) demands equally innovative approaches to professional training. Traditional educational models in reproductive medicine are often limited by inconsistent quality, variable clinical exposure, and prolonged learning curves. This paper proposes a comprehensive, AI-enhanced training framework designed to standardize and accelerate the education of clinicians, surgeons, and embryologists. The framework integrates six core domains: adaptive learning for theoretical knowledge, AI-driven simulations for clinical decision-making, virtual r

Pathways to professional training: a multinational study of psychotherapy trainees.

BACKGROUND: When aspiring psychotherapists start their training they enter it with particular educational and occupational backgrounds as well as childhood family experiences. Facets of these can be regarded as patterns of pathways to psychotherapy training potentially relevant for professional development. Based on a large-scale international trainee data base and comprising a wide range of variables we analysed whether different pathway patterns could be differentiated. METHODS: Pathway patterns were identified through cluster analysis using information from the Trainee Background Informati

Silence as a discourse regime in professional interactions within hospitals.

In social science and medicine, silence is frequently mentioned in studies of interprofessional interactions or physician-patient relationships, yet it is most often treated as a secondary phenomenon or a deficit in communication. Consequently, the interactional norms governing silence and its role in organizing professional interactions remain underexplored. This study addresses this gap by examining silence as an object of analysis in professional activities. Based on ethnographic observations and semi-structured interviews conducted in a hospital specializing in severe liver and pancreatic

Professional Fulfillment as a Strategic Imperative for Brain Health in Neurology.

The American Academy of Neurology has prioritized brain health through prevention, early detection, and longitudinal care. However, these goals depend on a stable and engaged neurology workforce. This article examines professional fulfillment as a structural determinant of workforce stability, continuity of care, and system performance. Emerging evidence demonstrates that burnout and professional fulfillment are related but distinct constructs. While burnout reflects occupational distress, fulfillment is associated with meaningful work, recognition, supportive leadership, and alignment between

[Development of entrustable professional activities for 39 residency programs].

INTRODUCTION: Entrustable professional activities (EPA) were developed to connect competencies with clinical practice and make them operational. These are tasks that can be entrusted to a trainee once he/she has obtained adequate competence to perform them, without supervision. By definition, residencies are the ideal setting for their implementation. However, one of the main challenges lies in the design and incorporation of EPA into current training programs. Through a collaborative effort between the Medical Education Department at Medicine University and Hospital de Clínicas, a pathway has

AI literacy among healthcare professionals and students in the Americas.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in health care continue to grow exponentially, and AI-tools such as machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and generative pre-trained transformers (GPT) continue to transform medical education. The adoption of AI in medical education however remains geographically varied, with studies illustrating a relatively lower research output on medical AI literacy in Latin America (LATAM) countries compared to North America. AI-applications offer significant potential to broaden access to medical education and facilitate evidence-based support
