In the search for a novel serotonin 7 (5-HT7) receptor PET radioligand we synthesized and evaluated a new series of biphenylpiperazine derivatives in vitro. Among the studied compounds, (R)-1-[4-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl)phenyl]piperazin-1-yl]-3-(2-pyrazinyloxy)-2-propanol ((R)-16), showed the best combination of affinity, selectivity, and lipophilicity, and was thus chosen for carbon-11 labelling and evaluation in pigs. The cobD gene of Salmonella typhimurium LT2 has been cloned, sequenced, and overexpressed. The overexpressed protein had a molecular mass of approximately 40 kDa, in agreement with the mass predicted by the deduced amino acid sequence (40.8 kDa). The tendency to crystallize was studied in the selected monohydroxy alcohols: 1-chloro-2-methyl-2-propanol, 1-chloro-2-propanol, 3-chloro-1-propanol, and 8-chloro-1-octanol. Hand disinfection is an important measure to prevent transmission of norovirus (formerly called Norwalk-like viruses) from hands or environmental surfaces to other objects. Therefore, three types of alcohol (ethanol, 1- and 2-propanol) were examined for their virus-inactivating properties against feline calicivirus (FCV) as a surrogate for norovirus. Tests were performed as quantitative suspension assays or as in vivo experiments with artificially contaminated fingertips. A series of "organic chemical hydrides" such as cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, cyclohexene, 2-propanol, and cyclohexanol were applied to the direct PEM fuel cell. This work describes the synthesis and characterization of six new dinuclear platinum complexes having N,N'-di-(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-diamino-2-propanol, aryl substituted N-benzyl-1,4-butanediamines and N-benzyl-1,6-hexanediamines as ligands. CeO2 acted as an effective and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for the direct synthesis of 2-imidazolidinone from ethylenediamine carbamate (EDA-CA) without further addition of CO2 in the reaction system. 2-Propanol was the best solvent among the solvents tested from the viewpoint of selectivity to 2-imidazolidinone, and the use of an adequate amount of 2-propanol provided high conversion and selectivity for the reaction.
