Psychometric validation of the identity abuse scale among LGBTQ individuals.

Identity abuse (IA) comprises a set of abuse tactics that exploit discriminatory systems including homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia (Tesch & Berkerian, 2015). This study examined the factorial validity of the IA Scale (Woulfe & Goodman, 2018) with a large independent sample of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals. Participants included 1,049 LGBTQ-identified participants (Mage  = 27.3, 71.9% White, 52.6% cisgender women, and 18.7% as other nonheterosexual identity in their sexual orientation), recruited through listservs. Participants completed an online surv

A cognitive psychometric model for assessment of picture naming abilities in aphasia.

Picture naming impairments are a typical feature of stroke-induced aphasia. Overall accuracy and rates of different error types are used to make inferences about the severity and nature of damage to the brain's language network. Currently available assessment tools for picture naming accuracy treat it as a unidimensional measure, while assessment tools for error types treat items homogenously, contrary to findings from psycholinguistic investigations of word production. We created and tested a new cognitive psychometric model for assessment of picture naming responses, using cognitive theory t

Initial psychometric validation of the questionnaire on pain caused by spasticity (QPS).

BACKGROUND: The Questionnaire on Pain caused by Spasticity (QPS) is a modular patient- and observer-reported outcome measure of spasticity-related pain (SRP) in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Originally developed for an English-speaking population, we conducted a psychometric validation of a recently developed Chinese language version of the QPS. METHODS: This was a prospective, observational study involving 137 children/adolescents with CP and upper and/or lower limb spasticity and their parents at three sites in China. Six QPS modules were used, three each for upper and lower limb SRP a

Gender Invariance and Psychometric Properties of the Nonproductive Thoughts Questionnaire for Children.

Perseverative cognitions-rumination and worry-can contribute to mental and somatic health problems in adolescence. Girls usually report stronger rumination or worry than boys even in earlier years across the development age spectrum. Our aim was to test the gender invariance and psychometric properties of the Nonproductive Thoughts Questionnaire for Children (NPTQ-C). Study 1 involved 1,572 students (mean age = 15.39 years, SD = 2.26; 49% boy) recruited representatively from local schools. We applied confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to test the measurement model of perseverative cognitions.

Psychometric Properties of the Korean Version of the Infertility Self-Efficacy Scale.

PURPOSE: The Infertility Self-Efficacy scale (ISE) is an instrument used to identify infertility-related self-efficacy. The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the ISE developed by Cousineau et al. in 2006. METHODS: The translated instrument was pilot-tested and administered to 314 women and men with a diagnosis of infertility. For estimating reliability, test-retest and the internal consistency reliability coefficients were calculated. Validity was evaluated through content validity, concurrent validity, and construct validity with explor

Pediatric Pain Beliefs Questionnaire: Psychometric Properties of the Short Form.

UNLABELLED: Cognitive appraisals inform and shape individuals' pain experiences. As researchers examine mechanisms of cognitive-behavioral interventions for chronic pain, psychometrically sound measures based in cognitive theory are needed to directly assess pain beliefs. The Pain Beliefs Questionnaire (PBQ), a 32-item self-report measure informed by coping and appraisal theory, was designed to assess children's pain threat appraisals, problem-focused pain coping efficacy, and emotion-focused pain coping efficacy. The present study aimed to: 1) create a short form of the PBQ, and 2) evaluate t

Czech version of OPQOL-35 questionnaire: the evaluation of the psychometric properties.

BACKGROUND: Both prognoses and real demographic trends in developed countries point to the increasing proportion in the population of people above 65 years of age. One of important themes of care for seniors is the assessment of their quality of life. To evaluate the quality of life of seniors three types of tools can be used: general generic tools; generic tools used for the age group of elderly persons; specific tools to detect the quality of life of the elderly who are affected by specific diseases. METHODS: The second type of tool is represented by the OPQOL - 35 questionnaire (Older Peop

The Psychometric Properties of the French Version of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5.

In the context of the publication of DSM-5, the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) has been proposed as a new dimensional assessment tool for personality disorders. This instrument includes a pool of 220 items organized around 25 facets included in a five-factor second-order domain structure. The examination of the replicability of the trait structure across methods and populations is of primary importance. In view of this need, the main objective of the current study was to validate the French version of the PID-5 among French-speaking adults from a European community sample (N=2,532). I

Psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Amblyopia and Strabismus Questionnaire (ASQE).

BACKGROUND: Strabismus and amblyopia are known to cause visual dysfunction, self-image disorders, difficulty in seeking employment and social and emotional barriers. These factors can have a serious and detrimental effect upon the patients' health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Presently, a condition-specific questionnaire is not available for assessing the HRQOL in Chinese patients. This study developed a Chinese version of the Amblyopia and Strabismus Questionnaire (ASQE) and tested its reliability and validity in Chinese adult strabismus patients. METHODS: Chinese strabismus adults, adul

A psychometric evaluation of the Swedish version of the Responses to Positive Affect questionnaire.

BACKGROUND: Previous research mainly focused on responses to negative affect in relation to depression, and less on responses to positive affect. Cognitive responses to positive affect are interesting in the context of emotion regulation and emotion disorders: positive rumination is associated to hypomania risk and bipolar disorder. There is to date no questionnaire in Swedish that captures the phenomena of cognitive response styles. AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate the replicability of the Responses to Positive Affect questionnaire (RPA) in a newly translated Swedish version an

Perfectionistic Tendencies in Insomnia Patients' Behavior During Psychometric Testing.

According to self-report questionnaire studies, insomnia patients differ from healthy controls with respect to several personality traits. The current study aimed at exploring how these personality traits may translate into behavior. Insomnia patients' behavior during psychometric testing (n = 163) was investigated in comparison to healthy controls (n = 81), patients with other sleep disorders (n = 80), and patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (n = 36). In line with our hypotheses, insomnia patients made more additional comments than healthy controls and more corrections than patients w

Psychometric properties of the affective reactivity index in Australian adults and adolescents.

Irritable mood is implicated in a range of psychiatric conditions in both adults and adolescents. Research into appropriate measures of irritability, however, has been sparse. Recently, Stringaris et al. (2012) published the Affective Reactivity Index (ARI), a measure of chronic irritability with promising psychometric properties. This article presents psychometric properties of the ARI with Australian adolescents and, for the first time, with adults. The adolescent sample (n = 396) was recruited from 11 secondary schools in southeastern Australia. The adult sample (n = 221) was recruited thro

Psychometric evaluation of the myasthenia gravis composite using Rasch analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The MG Composite (MGC) is a validated outcome measure of the clinical manifestations of myasthenia gravis. METHODS: We performed Rasch analyses of the MGC to investigate additional properties, including its unidimensionality and the appropriateness of the weights assigned to the response categories for the MGC items. RESULTS: The fit statistics indicated that the 10 items belong together and can be summated for a total score. There was an overall absence of item order distortion between response categories. The Rasch model's expected category response values were compatible wit
